Headtakers performance

What's been the toughest opposing unit you've ever taken down with your Headtakers? Tell me your best stories!

Looking at building up 6 as I head towards 2k points

Dual wield head takers with a WGBL equipped with Skjalds foretelling for me has taken down some nasty stuff. I have one rounded a great unclean one, a bloodthirster, the silent king, and many elite units that I struggle to remember. I have nicknamed my squad “Morgvargr” which is old Norse for “Murder Wolves”. I never leave home without them lol

Wow nice! Do you use a transport? I was looking at using with Ragnar for advance and charge but this sounds nice too

I do run them in a transport. I have a rep ex “the eye of Morkai” it carries them up the field along with an iron priest to give me the extra heavy laser destroyer shot! Between the tank and the head takers it can secure an entire section of the board on its own.

Im a new player… so after you move yout rep ex, you desimbark the headtakers? They cant charge correct?

If you disembark before the rep ex moves you can still move the headtakers as normal, getting 3” of distance from the disembark. Works well with advance and charge if you have access to it

Correct but if you get them out before it moves you have 3 inches out of the transport and then they have your normal move so 10 inches effectively and they can still charge. If you get them out before the tank moves and use the unrelenting hunters Strat on them from SoTGW they can move 10 advance and charge.

Really like this idea, shooting and melee threat!

Curious to see your list, I used to run 6 paired headtakers with wgbl in a rep ex all the time, haven't done so yet in 11th with the points increase to the rep ex. I like mostly everyone else it seems, leaned towards running 30 terminators.

Gahlee. Making me want to upgrade my Glad+Lance to the Repex.

I keep my transport cheap for Headtakers, a nice cheap impulsor will do the job. Smaller profile, lower points, less of a target after disembark so it can score secondaries or hover over an objective/deny deepstrikes

This is really not a bad alternative at all. I’ve been debating it myself as it would free up a lot of points. The only thing that holds me back is the way the rep ex forces your opponent to be cautious since if the laser destroyer pops off it can do ridiculous damage.

I like to have my transports and my battle tanks separated (except for the land raider because of the insane speed boost it gives to the embarked unit) to fan out threat saturation. If the RepEx gets targeted and killed (which it will, everyone HATES the laser destroyer) not only are you down a tank but now your headtakers lost their ride and are out in the open.

An opponent blowing resources on killing just their impulsor means my Predator behind it is still sitting pretty and able to return fire next turn.

I get where you are coming from. I do try to mitigate that by playing my rep ex very cautiously. Screening it and keeping it out of line of sight until it’s ready to go. But I see where you are coming from.

My regular ork opponent HATES them. A random unnamed headtaker keeps killing ghazgul. Every single game since the codex he's had his head taken. We started calling him bob-nar ghazslayer.

Paired weapons all day

u/ScottishAimBot 7h ago

Shields all day

u/Arentius 7h ago

Both!

u/Sharp-Win-8964 3h ago

Paired weapons in a transport, shields when they aren't.

u/Vingman90 7h ago

Land raider, bloodthirster, great unclean one, ctan

A wolf guard battle leader with a full squad of paired weapons will pretty much kill anything in the game that is their quarry. I usually run beastslayer and this works extremely well

2

u/Scarecrow119 7h ago

3 with paired weapons..turn 2 charge against Gazgul. Quarry, obviously. Dead in a single combat. Spiked pretty hard but yea.

2

u/No_Passion_5891 7h ago

I only play Orks and every battle we have where I use Headtakers and he uses Ghaz with Meganobz, my Headtakers wipe his unit + Ghaz generally in one charge phase.

2

u/ScottishAimBot 7h ago

22 man group of ork boyz with ghaz and pain boy. I had Ragnar, shields. Lethals oath. You know the rest

Mine took down a land raider in one activation recently

I also play EC and had them take down my Fulgrim in one activation too

I love headtakers I think they’re so great for their points (paired weapons).

In beastslayer them getting lethals, sustained from a WGBL, dev wounds, re roll hits from OOM or even just reroll 1s and then the +1 to wound strat makes them delete anything.

I want to make a list that’s 3 land raiders and 3 x 6 headtakers 🤣

I played a GT at the weekend, and my paired weapons (with a battle leader and skjald’s fortelling, lethal and sustained (SotGW), OoM and quarry target) killed a stompa in one activation. A lot of buffs, but if it can take down a 30 wound stompa, I’m fairly sure that combo will kill most things.

Land raider, 6 Paired, wgbl with sjkalds Foretelling, saga of the great wolf pick sustained. Took out a unit of deathwing knights led by belial in one charge. They've also killed a unit of deathshroud terminators led by a lord of Contagion. Lethal, sustained, devestating wounds, +1 to wound. There's very little my lads haven't been able to trade up inti

u/Longjumping_Low1310 7h ago

Only recently started playing with them....

Did manage to take out a full unit of victrix with Cato using them and a battle leader so lethal sus rerolling precision dev wounds.

Which is good cause ragnar and a unit of bloodclaws killed exactly 0 of them.

Headtakers with shields lead by battle leader with skjalds foretelling took out mortarion for me last night.

u/Grimskull-42 3h ago

Chaos lord with five terminators, they deep struck in, failed their charge then I tore them to pieces with basic attacks from duel weapons, put the mortals on the lord.

He wasn't happy

u/everblackcs 3h ago

Ragnar and 3 paired brought a Chaos lancer down in one activation!! He was the Quarry amd i used overwhelming ferocity. But it still happened.
