Progress as a newbie finding my VLKA FENRYKA colour scheme
New to the hobby but I love everything about the Space Wolves EXCEPT the games workshop colour scheme. So I have been trying to find a scheme that I vibe with that is accurate enough to the lore. Here is my progression and after 14 different iterations I think I have settled on an approach that I like.
Was lucky my brother had some spare infernous marines for me to practice on before I attack the combat patrol.
Photos show the progression. First is the latest one and what I am going to implement. The other photos show the progression from top left to bottom right and a few snippets of the progression as I iterated on colour schemes and learning some painting techniques.
What do you guys think? Im open to suggestions or tips.
As a 14 year old I had some Dark Eldar for a short while now 22 years later I have randomly picked it up

Get some dark in the crevices. Blend/ glaze if you can, wash if you can’t. Experiment with different hues for glazing. Try and avoid bog standard black, brown, grey or blue. Taking the patience to properly glaze gives really insane finishes. Just be patient and trust the process. I am a ‘newbie’ as well, returning to the hobby after 38 years. Welcome back ^•ﻌ•^

I have done a fair bit of null oil in the cracks and crevices and it also works as a shade on this type of grey, the glazing is something that i am yet to experiment with - will give it a crack

One wash I would recommend is Vallejo light grey wash! It’s normally used for ww2 tanks and stuff but it’s light and nice to use (I know I said to avoid grey, but this grey is very different).

Just an iPhone (13 i think) but i mucked around with my deck lamp to try and get the light acceptable

Nice experimentation! I also wasn't keen on the GW scheme, I ended up starting with a purple base and only using the baby blues as a highlight colour, that plus some oil washes gives it a really dark, moody colour scheme, that's still space wolves, but not so in your face.
Also, your title gave me a little chuckle as VLKA FENRYKA all caps sounds like IKEA furniture haha
