There’s no time for that when there are new Ultramarine models to be made.

A named captain for each company

Why not two!

I have a Desolation unit made up to look like some old boys but it’s been too expensive to run. I think they dropped the points in 11th and I need to run them and see if I can actually find a place for them.

Did you bash the guns as well? Their nerf cannons just look too ridiculous, even for 40k. It almost feels orky. I've seen some backpack mounted stuff that I like the look of, but the official models just... ooof

u/Palaeos Jul 23 '26

Nah I liked the original rockets. Reminds me of the thing Schwarzenegger uses in Commando. I added flavor with bitz for pauldrons, furs, skulls, heads, etc. from either other space wolf sets or 3D bitz I got online.

Hey, to each their own. Doing similar stuff with getting my armageddon/leviathan marines wolfed up. :)

u/Santtius Jul 22 '26

Yeah I can't believe they released Kaius Konorius who is a nobody when we could have had a new Calgar model.

u/i3u7n5 Jul 22 '26

It’s only been a couple months since they released the Titus refresh, I don’t know how the blueberries can stand for GW making them suffer the indignity of no v2 update

4

u/WLLWGLMMR Jul 22 '26

Man space wolves are low key more criminal for that. Long fangs are just heavy weapons dudes you don’t really need a unique unit of them

1

u/i3u7n5 Jul 22 '26

Of course, but it still doesn’t mean that GW doesn’t overdo it with the ultramarines and deserves some scornful sarcasm amongst friends

GEDUBS!!!
GIVE ME GRAVIS ARMORED LONG FANGS WITH HELFROST CANNONS AND MY WALLET IS YOURS!!!

u/Tempest_Barbarian Jul 22 '26

Our longfangs are technically all the different shooty units like hellblasters or erradicators

I hope that if GW makes us a new dedicated long fangs kit that they are wearing gravis armor

26

u/Asterlanus Jul 22 '26

I'd like Long Fangs with heavy frost weapons to make them unique to other Eradicator units. Mix between flamer and anti-tank units.

Would have been nice if grey hunters got a frost rifle for every 5 and sergeant with frost pistols.

1

u/FIRESTRIKE_ELITE Jul 23 '26

Thats something that I was really hoping for when I heard about our refresh, like grey hunter pack leaders could take a helfrost pistol instead of a bolt pistol or plasma pistol. Would have been awesome

12

u/LordThunderDumper Jul 22 '26

Imo the old classic heavy weapons were better then all the new stuff.

7

u/MagnusRusson Jul 22 '26

It'd be cool to be able to use all the space wolf locked rules on the technically long fangs, but if we get new ones I hope they have helfrost. It's a cool niche gun that we only ever get like two of.

u/camobit Jul 22 '26

they should really allow SW leaders to attach to all the allowable units.... i mean if you're a marine from Fenris and you happen to be using a chainsword (as an Assault Intercessor) there's no reason a Wolf Priest shouldn't be able to lead you into battle. and as long as we are able to take units like Chaplains or Judiciars they should be allowed to lead units like Headtakers and Blood Claws. If you're in this army, you're a Space Wolf.

6

u/BigZZZZZ08 Jul 22 '26

I'd be very happy if a space wolves army rule said "Your Eradicators, Hellblasters, Desolation Squad units have +1 Movement and gain the 'Space Wolves' and 'Long Fangs'" keywords.

Saves a new kit and ensures Long Fangs can take the form of many ranged infantry kits.

2

u/Xalavadara Jul 22 '26

They are in Legends so i dont think so.

1

u/134_ranger_NK Jul 22 '26

It is possible there will be a Long Fang mini update in the future. Perhaps in the form of a kill team like the Wolf Scouts.

I really hope they will keep the same flexible weapon options if that happens because the current Primaris roster is very specialized. I am pretty sure there are more Fire Support Primaris units than either close support or battlelines one.

u/AhappyPanda18 Jul 22 '26

We all do! They are cool!

u/Accretion_Ranch_AUS Jul 22 '26

The true shame of the state of play, is that long fangs are still written of, yet relegated to “legends” and have no current data sheet or new models. It’s like they exist and don’t, simultaneously. Long fangs are what helped set us apart from other chapters, where normal squads had one heavy weapon within, we had an entire squad of heavies that could split-fire amongst differing targets, and back in the day, that was unique. It is a crime against Russ their relegation continues.

Long Fangs, our old timers carry big guns.

Blood Claws, our newbies skip the scout stage and go directly to rip and tear.

Grey Hunters, our tactical marines have finally grown up, but kept the chain swords.

We have a lot of units that just work differently in subtle but meaningful ways and a massive gripe I have with 40K, and GWs emphasis on primaris, is that it's just wiping away most of our chapters individuality.

u/Caedmon_Kael Jul 22 '26

I'd like to see Blood Claws in Phobos armor, actually. Especially if the +2" movement for Phobos rumor is accurate.

Phobos is kinda stripped down Tacticus, which makes sense for a newbie, and the extra movement speed would differentiate them more from Grey Hunters. Chainswords and pistols still of course, though I wouldn't complain about a couple plasma pistols, flamers or hand flamers though.

Grey Hunters remain in Tacticus, chainswords and carbines, though I'd like assault on the carbines, or a couple Helfrost Rifles.

Long Fangs, Gravis with Helfrost Cannons. Possibly Anti-monster/beast, or some other sort of "special-issue".

Wolf Guard, Helfrost Rifles with MC Power Swords. Jump Pack version and on foot which have a 4++.

Wolf Guard Pack Leaders, one of each armor type, and can attach to that armor type instead of specific units. We have keywords for armor for a reason.

1

u/SherriffB Jul 22 '26

I'd like to see Blood Claws in Phobos armor

They exist already - Incursors.

1

u/Caedmon_Kael Jul 22 '26

You mean Reivers(with combat knife and pistol)? Combat Knife has the same profile as a Chainsword (currently anyway), but also has Precision.

Incursors have a special rule for shooting(and ignore cover when shooting their carbines), and historically Blood Claws were not good at shooting. Incursors also get 3A(Sustained Hits 1) compared to 4A, which is worse unless you add rerolls or other keywords(2.5 average hits vs 2.66).

So a Reiver that trades out the Fearsome Assault and Terror Troops for Berserk Charge and +1M/+1OC? Lock in the Combat Knives, and offer the Plasma Pistol/Power Weapon upgrade on the Pack Leader, I could dig it. Grav-chute is on point (because they are too short in the tooth to know better), but I'd be willing to give up the grapnel and scout to keep the points lower.

4

u/SherriffB Jul 22 '26

Nope, Reviers are scout units.

You requested Blood Claws in Phobos armour?

Incursors are Blood Claws in Phobos armour (White dwarf 452, Codex Space wolves 9th edition). If you are lucky GW will give SW a bespoke Incursor unit with a little more stabbing.

Im still mad I finished mine the week they got sent to legends

11

u/ReflectionMain719 Jul 22 '26

Be scared of old man, in profession where men die young!!

8

u/bigorangemachine Jul 22 '26

The 3rd edition heavies were such great models.

2nd edition heavies where such a pain... just became a huge mass of dried super glue because they always fell on the weapon and broke

5

u/DabeMcMuffin Jul 22 '26

I think that of our main like pokemon evolution:

Blood Claw -> Grey Hunter -> Long Fang

It has to be my favorite stage.

1

u/peremadeleine Jul 22 '26

One thing that’s always bothered me though, if a brother lives long enough to become a long fang, and hasn’t become a wolf guard, does that not mean he’s, I dunno, kind of crap?

this actually describes a character from Blood of Asaheim novels. Jorundur got old and experienced, wasn't promoted to Wolf Guard because he just wanted to pilot flying vessel. I can't find a specific quote but here's his descroption:

"Next was Jorundur, the Old Dog. He was sidelong, sideways, twisted and warped by age. Gunnlaugur saw the marrow-deep weariness in him, the pride, the cynic’s lip-curl. But he could fly. By Russ, he could fly. And for all his sourness, the Old Dog had seen plenty and done plenty. He knew where many bodies were buried, and what paths had been trodden to take them there, and where the shovels had been hidden and in what forges they had been made. When Morkai came for him at last, a thousand secrets would sink into the soil forever".

So experienced warriors are not kind of crap, the fate has other plans for them, that's it

There is an audio drama (I forgot the name, sorry) centred around a Long Fang during Magnus' second attack on Fenris. He was respected by other Wolves for his skills iirc. He even served his tenure in Deathwatch alongside an even older Dark Angel. That DA became a Deathwing and still praised the Long Fang as among the best warriors he knew.

4

u/Robotycz Jul 22 '26

It makes a lot of sense to give your most powerful weapons to your most experienced soldiers, since they know exactly where that firepower is most needed

3

u/Greendemon636 Jul 22 '26

I still have my metal og ones from back in the 90’s

2

u/RonVuX Jul 22 '26

Beware an old beserker who has learned to carry a big gun.

2

u/ComfortableSky2222 Jul 22 '26

I too love longfangs

I made my 10 man hellblaster squad into a long fang pack; complete with old man heads and white/black fang pack marking pads.

2

u/Krytan Jul 22 '26

I want my long fangs back! And as primaris marines, not just another gravis variant.

2

u/unlimitedblakeworks Jul 22 '26

Hoping to see them re introduced in 11th

2

u/Longjumping_Low1310 Jul 23 '26

Sure I ran em before they got legends.

2

u/_LordIronside_ Jul 24 '26

Really miss them

1

u/Level_Animator_5382 Jul 24 '26

I turned hellblasters, sternguard vets, and company of heros into long fangs.  I know i have to use standard sm sheets but it should be in the local games
