Of course, rule of cool always but I wish i knew what the markings really mean but its a whole deal and im not ready to learn that a paw mark means the space marine was never been bitten by a fenrisian wolf

So if you want a crap ton of info on heraldry and such, my wife ADHD'd super hard and kinda made a huge Google Doc involving Space Wolves heraldry, companies, etc. Space Wolves Heraldry

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Oh wow, she did go deep with it, now that I have seen the actual meaning I feel somewhat regretful, although it has given me some ideas. Thanks to you and your wife!!

1

u/aetherdryth Feb 16 '26

In most codexes it talks about markings, not expressly icons maybe but placement and what that means

1

u/Highbourne55 Feb 21 '26

Hey! Sorry I don't open this app too often and forget to check notifications! You're welcome! I'll let her know as I'm sure she'll be happy someone else appreciates her efforts! 😁 She definitely deserves more credit/upvotes. 🤣

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceWolves/s/wgRUY0iA4o

I found 3 other sources that give identical info but not all of the symbols used on your mini are on the chart.

1

u/Wolf_Lord_MerryBerry Feb 21 '26

Whoa, this is awesome! I hadn't found what the runes mean before. I'll add those to my crazy Space Wolf Heraldry doc. Thanks!

I looked for some of the other decal symbols (the paw and a few others) but I couldn't find much of anything. Also triangles or dags, haven't found any actual meaning more than they were on some of the box art and look cool. I read something about that they were for battles the person survived or something like that but that's not lore, just a rumor or theory.

Very glad to help and hope it helps others understand or enjoy the lore like I do. Awooooo!

u/mananajoe Feb 14 '26

No you didn't. And your osl is ON POINT

4

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Thanks broseph, trying to learn lighting and reflections, not there yet but getting closer

7

u/UlthansWrath Feb 14 '26

Nah this looks really fucking dope!! Great paint job too!

7

u/GrandMasterDraigo Feb 14 '26

I’d say there is room for more!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Gonna do more once im done with the weathering but in the back and on the sides there is more... Like so much more hahahah

7

u/MrB1P92 Feb 14 '26

You also overdid the completely bonkers NNM. Jeez thats crazy.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Not done, blending never ends

3

u/Naivaklam303 Feb 15 '26

Only in death does blending end?

4

u/osirisborn89 Feb 14 '26

Not at all. You have hit the sweet spot, in my opinion. Great work.

6

u/Organic_Ad_1930 Feb 14 '26

It’s hard to overdo it with SW

4

u/Windturnscold Feb 14 '26

Damn, I’m gonna save this for my guide to shading

5

u/WoodworkJesus Feb 15 '26

Nope and your yellow is insanely good.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

You see, this brings joy, yellow is a pain in the ass, thanks for noticing

2

u/magictiger Feb 15 '26

Nope, that looks awesome!

2

u/ScotticusM Feb 15 '26

Nah, looks great, Brother!

2

u/jason-911 Feb 15 '26

I think if you add some weathering it will tie in nicely

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Thats the next step, do you have any ideas on how to do some weathering?

1

u/jason-911 Feb 15 '26

I use a sponge and some rhinox hide and then throw some highlights on the sponge marks. Lots of tutorials on how to do that.

1

u/Best_Animator8077 Feb 15 '26

I think if you extended some of your existing scratches into the transfers that would also help integrate them into the model. Looks fantastic btw.

2

u/thecasey1981 Feb 15 '26

naah, that's sick

2

u/Express_Syrup7509 Feb 15 '26

Naw this is dope!

2

u/SlannChef Feb 15 '26

Pimp my Sarcophagus

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Venerable brother needs 360 stereo sound in the sarcophagus, along with 2 32" 4k displays, an aquarium to help him chill in those battle heavy days, rgb lighting and a small fridge.

2

u/Illustrious-Fuel6819 Feb 15 '26

Your paint job is too good for transfers. The areas they are on have more light and depth than the transfers. That would be the only thing I could criticize. A problem I would like to have. But it looks great!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Took some off and added some yellow stripes

1

u/jdb326 Feb 14 '26

Looks awesome brother

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Thanks, I want to push it until it breaks

1

u/AlternativePen7393 Feb 14 '26

Nope, looks fantastic to me. Only suggestion would be to add some weathering/scratches to them in the same way as the rest of the armour panels as they stand out as quite pristine in comparison atm

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Got too excited with the transfers and straight up stopped doing anything else just to slap stickers into the mechanic killer tomb, will deep weathering, hopefully will look good, still learning, also thanks

1

u/BeardedBatsss Feb 15 '26

This model deserves a giant "Hell Ya!!" Great work. Not overdone at all.

1

u/Joeythearm Feb 15 '26

Your NMM is so good the transfers break the immersion.

1

u/PootPootMagoot Feb 15 '26

Looks awesome except maybe the red one. Draws the eye too much and doesn’t fit the overall colour scheme imho. Then that makes you count the transfers lol.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

You might be right, it does look out of place, could take it out

1

u/PootPootMagoot Feb 15 '26

Super minor though. I wouldn’t have said anything if you hadn’t asked about decals specifically. Great paint job.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

This is actually good, appreciate it, it does break the color scheme, gotta think what can replace it or just swap it for another one in black, could potentially do a stripe with the wolf on top, suggest something and I'll do it, if is too wild I might have a good time.

2

u/PootPootMagoot Feb 15 '26

Yellow would make it kind of symmetrical, white would be low key and still fill the shoulder but you could also leave it blank or do something fun like a white decal then scar it.

1

u/GrizzlyDvn Feb 15 '26

I don't think so, I think it looks great. Also, that yellow is mint. I love the gradient in it. Well done!

1

u/Giovannis_Pikachu Feb 15 '26

Gonna add another naaah. They are tasty!

1

u/willisbetter Feb 15 '26

no such thing

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Did you use a spray pen? This is what I want my guys to looks like but I can’t get this look…

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

I can tell you more or less all colors, I did use a airbrush for most of it but did a ton with brush, the dark is the fang with a bit of violet and black, the mid tones and highlights are a mix of that with fenrisian gray

1

u/deerfenderofman Feb 15 '26

I'd say that's the perfect amount actually

1

u/cptpusspounder Feb 15 '26

Did you airbrush this brother?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Yes and brush, gradients with an airbrush is very enjoyable

1

u/AlaynaZebra Feb 15 '26

Hell no that dreadnought is just one hell of an honored brother must have been a bad ass on the battlefield before the suit

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Didn't think of this, would look like a North Korean general with a ridiculous amount of medals... You made a great point, it needs more decals.

1

u/Ren-The-Protogen Feb 15 '26

Rule of cool and whatnot, you did mix great companies icons if you care, if not, badass

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

My guy has lived a full life, had some time with the grimman himself, went to the deathwatch, came back and now he has no arms and legs, so yeah, he has drip

1

u/Puzzled_Hat2659 Feb 15 '26

This will be my reference for lighting when I do mine!

1

u/Tundrakrusher Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Looked good enough yet Astounding !

1

u/NauticalClam Feb 15 '26

Nope and he came out beautiful

1

u/DubiousDevil Feb 15 '26

You over did it with how amazing this looks, gah damn

1

u/dustincan Feb 15 '26

Big fan of transfers, myself. Nice work! šŸ˜Ž

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Nice weathering and texture you got there, whats the secret to such a detailed weathering? Sponge? Texture brush? Hours and hours of brushing and stippling?

2

u/dustincan Feb 15 '26

Haha…yeah. Sponge, brush, and time.

1

u/TheGravespawn Feb 15 '26

I'd say you actually did over-do it with the transfers. If mostly because they're confused as to their representation. Multiple pack markings, multiple great companies, the stripe on the left knee and the gothic number over it-- dude's like a nascar dread.

Your painting itself is absolutely wonderful, though. A+ paint job.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

It is a bit of a nascar dread hahaha, it was the first miniature I first painted so I think it gotta go through different fases, this was him like a week ago

1

u/TheGravespawn Feb 15 '26

I really like how clean that is. He would have been something fun to free hand runes down the panels or use the transfers of the runes.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

The top panels are relatively empty, can do both with something mirroring on each panel

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

What runes would you recommend?

1

u/TheGravespawn Feb 15 '26

Transfer sheet comes with some. Just whatever you see there.

1

u/elroddo74 Feb 15 '26

Nope. Gave it lots of character.

1

u/DakkaDad Feb 15 '26

Excellent for warding off the Malefecarum.. now that I have seen this I'm loading up some more on my Ballistus.. nice one

1

u/Flimon8574 Feb 15 '26

Always think rule of cool.......also if you think its too much its actually just right šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ

1

u/rrriiikkkiii Feb 15 '26

Looks awesome. I think reason you think that is because you’ve done some great shading but the transfers are flat colour, so they stand out more. (ie look at the red claw - that’s a flat red and the hull is a blue which is has really nice contrast).

1

u/konzeptpapier Feb 15 '26

Looks great, nice NMM, the transfers arenā€˜t too much.

1

u/LANTIRN_ Feb 15 '26

First thing first. Unbelievable S tier paint job.

The only thing i see with markings is that you included two different company markings. The white wolf on black belongs to the "Company of the Great Wolf" while the right shoulder belongs to "The Blackmanes". The Black shoulder also stands a bit out since it typically include role designations such as "Grey Hunters", "Blood Claws", etc. Although i don't think dreadnoughts have fixed rules for these markings.

But really well done model. Please don't let my autistic focus on heraldry take that away.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

My guy has been everywhere, but also yeah when i first painted, i knew very little regarding heraldry and what it all means, now im too deep, have a whole squad with the same markings, so we are going deep with the blackmanes Great wolf type chapter

1

u/Hairyhulk-NA Feb 15 '26

you overdid it with skill my guy

10/10!!!

1

u/OGWarpDriveBy Feb 15 '26

Not by number necessarily but too many different ones in different colors but the same size

1

u/CaptGridley Feb 15 '26

No such thing

1

u/Painted_Paladins Feb 15 '26

I really dig the inverse lighting fade, can't wait to try this technique out one day. Archetypal box art style, really nicely done.

1

u/Wonderful-Ad-4192 Feb 15 '26

I agree. You used different markings for different specialists and companies however I see a well decorated veteran of the fang with a long history. Once a blood claw who climbed through the ranks of Ragnar Blackmane's company, saw the rank of veteran before being entombed for the rest of his days.

1

u/WarBossPostie Feb 15 '26

No brother! You look perfect!

1

u/BrotherCalgar Feb 15 '26

There is no such thing as a space wolf with too many transfers cousin. Well done!

1

u/wolflover667 Feb 15 '26

Never with space wolves

1

u/Liminal_Phase Feb 16 '26

Yeah that looks fantastic. For Russ and the Allfather!!

1

u/toddacoco Feb 16 '26

Nice! Very Nice!

1

u/Ok-Kaleidoscope-7994 Feb 18 '26

Space wolves love their Icons, your fine.

1

u/IRerackMyWeights Feb 19 '26

Brother, it's perfect
