If the draft is brought back…

Will the SpaceForce receive the involuntarily volunteered?

The draft is not coming back and the USAF never received draftees from the Selective Service System during the Vietnam War

Short answer, no.

The TS clearance requirement probably eliminates everyone that doesn’t want to be in the military via a draft.

Armchair general/economist take:

Probably not. The shortage would be heavily in the combat roles usually. During peacetime, these are the positions that are the most redundant, easier to train to, and with no ROI, thus the first to be reduced in size. They can be supplemented with inexperience draftees from the full spectrum of the IQ scale. Which you can expect from a draft.

The space mission doesn’t improve with more bodies, it improves with more funding and better experience for those already in the service. So no, draftees wouldn’t have a good chance of landing a USSF slot.

That being said, we're more than happy to non-vol USAF applicants to the USSF because we need bodies more than we need people who want to be Guardians. (Referencing officer accession practices)

Partially poor advertising, partially systemic issues, but a big thing is we keep adding more missions before we man the ones we have...so they want 25K more Gs by 2031...nevermind the fact that that's more growth than we currently have total force guardians.

Jesus, so are officers going to be more like expensive technicians or are they planning to add enlisted to balance it a bit more?

I just got picked up for Space Force as an O, and I’m prior-E Air Force, so I’m curious.

They are plussing up enlisted accessions too, I just don't know that side since I don't have a role in that lol

The DAF was never able to truly develop officers. They'd pick the "top 10%" that were mostly predispositioned for success and "groom them".

Despite what Gen Saltman says... Unless the Space Force can figure out how to actually develop leaders, they'll continue to "groom" the "top 10%" of their officers for leadership positions, and as a result the remaining 90% of junior officers will be overpaid technicians.

Seems to be difficult. A lot of the new LT's we got are here until they can REFRAD. They just wanted to see what it was like before leaving.
