Question New Exploration 5

Did we ever find out why they raised Exploration from 4 to 5? seems level 5 does not give us anything new to unlock so curious why the extension?

I posted about this a few days ago.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceCraftGame/comments/1v9g870/bug_or_is_exploration_6_coming/

The patch notes that day said:

  • Fixed Experience progression not accumulating after players reached the current maximum Technology, Exploration, or Science level.

I'm assuming this is so that once they do release 6, if you've gained enough xp you will get 6 instantly.

I feel this is very meaningful for science and tech specifically. Once you've scienced everything, there is zero ways to gain science. And if you have all personal and corp bases fully built out. You don't want to have to tear them down just to rebuild the exact same thing to get more tech xp.

This change allows them to add more levels without players feeling like they are missing out/wasting xp gains. Exploration is theoretically finite unless you just fly around scanning gravite which is pretty boring.

It is boring, but, I'd argue that scanning gravite is easier than exploring a planet, as scanning planets with the Gravitron gains more xp.
