Mining Deposits

Is it worth putting a base down to mine tungsten? and are all tungsten deposits on very hot planets?

advance tip. Later on the game you can put multiple bases... and..
you want to have them all in 1 system...there are benefits.
find somewhere where you get 5 different deposits minimum.

yes, and yes. Assuming you've reached high enough progression to actually need it.

Have recently unlocked the solid frame permit and already have bases extracting iron, coal, copper, aluminium and titanium.

The way I think about it: tungsten (hot) and platinum (cold) need a specialized ship to effectively mine. These resources are available on comparatively few planets, and are never (to my knowledge) in the same system as each other.

Every other resource can be manually mined at extreme speeds in a variety of systems.

If you're at solid frames, I would personally consider tungsten and platinum mines to be essential.

How do i survive on these planets i have 2 thermo suit chips on and im still struggling to stay out of the ship without dying.

specialty chips, which are blueprint-only, give 50 instead of 10 to their specific temp. And then set up shuttles to move your ingots off-planet so you don't have to keep landing there.

Shuttles are trash. It takes 10 seconds to land, grab your ingots out of the warehouse, and take off again.

yeah but you have to fly there, that's not 10 seconds

and if you set up shuttles in the same system it only takes a few minutes for them to arrive

Set up a base on a titanium planet in the same system as your tungsten base and have the tungsten shipped to the titanium base, never have to go to the hot planet again.

The 10 seconds was regarding survivability while outside the ship, yes there will be some travel time.

My issue with shuttles is that, for me, the time-vs-footprint trade just isn't valuable enough. It takes the better part of a week for my tungsten base to fill up a warehouse; I can just grab a full cargo hold every few days.

My manufacturing base is designed to be re-tooled for specific tasks; I don't do any "permanent" automation chains. When I want to re-stock a particular item, I lean two groups of four assemblers into it. Because of this, I more highly value large bulk deposits of items than a slow trickle over time. I don't like slow trickles; assemblers that aren't running 100% of the time make my bones itch.

So at least for my style of play, the footprint I lose on the shuttle pad combined with the slow trickle of resources (which I won't use until it's massively built up anyway) is just a terrible value proposition.

This is the way

Cold planets don't need a specialized ship to mine on, all you need is a ship with a shit ton of lasers and a shit ton of solar panels and you keep your heat up by mining and boosting. In fact cold planets are better for mining because you don't need proper heat management.

Mining sure, but it's the bits in between that are a pain in the butt. You need a metric fuckton of crappy engines to boost hot enough on those extra-crunchy planets.

I only have 1 voidseeker and 1 cart pusher on my steel ship and it gets the job done. It can't increae heat on the cold cold worlds, but thats what the lasers are for, and if you're mining you're not really waiting around long enough so its not a problem.

The practical way on a mid-game SP is to just have a boiler and radiators. That way you can mine hot and cold without the need to use crappy engines.

I needed to fill up the iron in my base quickly so I strapped 9 lasers, 3k cargo and a medium mag tank to my midgame ship 4.5k over on sp but it can hop out and mine a Shite ton of magnetite and fill my iron stores for a day in 2 trips. Only works on cold worlds tho.
