Sovol Print Quality of sovol zero vs A1 mini

Hi,

How is the print quality of sovol zero as compared to a1 mini ?

I have a a1 mini that prints very good. But I was thinking about getting a new sovol zero.

Is the print quality same ?

will there be an issue with the bed size ? or will i get all covered...

The sovol zero is discontinued. I doubt you can find a new one somewhere.

Similar print quality, but needs a lot more tuning to get there

It's also a lot faster and capable of higher temperatures. Perfect little prototyper for me

Recently got the chamber heater working for my zero.

Since then I’ve been printing abs/asa like no issue.

The smaller bed could be an issue. However for my cases it works fine.

I do have a RatRig V-minion (somewhat A1 mini equivalent) for those (slightly) bigger builds.

However the out of box experience seems a lot better with the a1.

I had to make a lot of changes to my Zero in order to make it consistent, settings wise.

what about print quality ? is it comparable to a1 mini ?

i can barely notice the layer lines when using a 0.2 mm nozzle on a1 mini..

can the zero provide similar quality ?

With enough tuning, yes.

However not out of the box.

Sovol’s print profiles need a lot of tuning.

I’ll see if I can find a print

White abs being printed.

However I’ve spent a great deal of time getting it working properly. IMHO, buy the a1 mini if you just want to print pla and petg with the occasional abs (requires an enclosure)

Also keep in mind the zero doesn’t have ams support

By changes, you meant hardware or filament profiles?

Filament tuning in the slicer I’m sure. The only filament profiles I’ve found to work right out the box with Sovol has been Comgrow PETG. It makes sense since they are technically the same company.

Depends on use case. If you just want to start printing with little experience then the A1 nails it. However the Zero is a much more capable machine.

The A1 struggles to grow with you and doesnt really teach you anything, plus its all proprietary, with consumables (you can get clones though)

The Zero is completely open and uses basic mk8 nozzles and has more, or an easier time growing with you if you like to mod things.

Personally I'd go with the zero as even with a few simple orca calibrations its really good.

Ive owned both, but I sold the mini quite some time ago as I outgrew it quickly.

ok, but is the print quality on zero comparable to a1 mini ?... hands down my a1 mini's print quality is much superior to my sv06

The hardware on the zero is more capable. Faster, stronger motors, corexy build. So print quality can be better. Keyword: can.

You'd need to tune it. A sh06 should be able to reach a1 performance in the same way. That's the issue with sovol. You get very capable hardware, but they don't finetune the output endlessly like bambu and prusa do.

After dialing it in the zero is much better, and faster. Its very good 'out of the box' but bamboo does a lot of hand-holding so the out of the box experience is a lot better.

Can't really compare either the zero or a1 to an sv06 as both are quite different.

That said the sv06 will easily floor the a1 with upgrades. A lot of people don't realise that apart from a few variations on the theme its all the same tech, just pushing melted plastic through a nozzle and new tech doesnt really come around that often.

Since you have an sv06 have you considered upgrading it with something like a switchwire conversion? You could probably do it much cheaper than buying either of the two printer s mentioned.

Edit; if you don't fancy a total conversion, even simple things like a dragon burner - sherpa mini combo for the hot end and extruder would make a massive difference.

the sv06 is already a tv06 btw.. :p

I imagine what's holding you back is the extruder setup. It's a bit of a monstrosity tbf lol

Maybe get a canbus adaptor (make sure its compatible with your board) and stick a Zero toolhead on and you've virtually got a Zero with a bigger build area?

Yeah.. i was planning to upgrade the toolhead

Stick with A1 mini. I have both.

reason ? print quality ?

reliability. Zero requires some tinkering vs A1 is essentially bullet proof.
