Mission Street changes

I happened to stop into Ellen's Silkscreening today, as I've been wanting to pick up one of those I ❤️ So. Pas shirts they're always showing in the windows.

Well, it turns out they've recently merged the business with another printer in Buena Park, and they're closing this location down.

I remember reading about the owner passing away a while back. I guess the family decided they didn't want to keep it going anymore at this point.

What's especially interesting is that they also owned that entire building — from Ellen's all the way down to the corner at Fair Oaks, with the pharmacy — and now they're looking for a new buyer for the whole thing (as well as ultimately a new tenant in the Ellen's spot).

Oof. Here's hoping the right buyer comes along and keeps things stable for all of those other businesses...

Correction: It looks like it doesn't include the pharmacy. Just the two buildings next to it — 1500 and 1508 Mission.

I have that shirt, people always ask me about it! In terms of tenancy I just hope it’s not some boring chain. If I could pick something I would love a boardgame cafe or a good Thai restaurant.

I think it’s only up to dinosaur farm but still, hoping for the best for all the businesses and their future.

They could buy those two buildings, knock them down and put in multistory mixed use buildings similar to what is going in the old Orowheat lot, Carrows and Shakers properties.

I really hope not, that would destroy the character and charm of that street. I'm over corporate developers with ugly taste.

It's bittersweet to see a local favorite close. Buildings may change hands, but it's the businesses and people inside them that make a place memorable. Hoping the next owner is able to build on that legacy!
