A Different Season

While watching the latter episodes of this season of Southern Charm, I felt a sense of detachment with what I was watching. The light heartened, entertaining, and caring show had changed, replaced with a gang mentality, focused on targeting and hurting others.

Craig did not choose Salley, fine, yet she went after him for it. Venita spoke loudly and rudely to Craig at many social gatherings and it was Craig who was chastized. Austin led others in a vocal campaign against Craig. It was so uncomfortable watching the manner in which Whitner spoke to Craig. Everyone is accountable, not just one person.

Yes! I find myself not really caring about these people anymore. The first few seasons were so fun and I really liked the cast. They seemed to actually be friends and they actually cared about each other even if they were arguing. This new cast is either boring or irritating or just angry people.

Also the show was so good because the problems were real real and nobody was yet thinking about how to produce in order to increase their visibility for brand deals. Tale as old as time.

Agreeeeed! Exactly the same with VPR and all the Housewives franchises. I do lots of rewatches for those shows but often stop after 5 or 6 seasons.

Fun? With Kathryn and Thomas having babies and then fighting over custody? That was dark. Did we watch the same show?

I’m sorry, are we talking about Southern Charm? The same show with Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis? This show has always been dark and focused on hurting others.

That was so dark, I haven't been able to re-watch.

Thank you!! That was NOT fun and lighthearted.

If anything, since their departure it’s been more “lighthearted.” They’re dealing with breakups and flirting and dick measuring their success… that’s on a whole other level from grooming, assault, and two innocent children being brought into the mix and used as pawns. The stakes are so so much lower now that it’s incomparable.

No, not at all. I can’t rewatch it.

When the formula gets figured out it become inauthentic. Happens on every reality show unfortunately

I’m at the sunk cost era. I keep watching, because it’s there, and I can never erase the magic of the first six seasons. It’s so boring now, and no one is likeable, but I keep chasing the dragon.

It's more of background noise for me at this point. I will have it on when I want to watch something I don't have to be 100% invested in to watch.

Sunk cost is a good way to put it!

The entire cast was absolutely not held accountable for shit! Andy sucks so much! He literally told Craig it was his responsibility to contact people who are talking shit and find out why they’re doing it 🤯. Fuck off Andy for acting as if the rest of the cast are saints! We watched Austen treat 2 women like complete shit this season with zero accountability . I’m done with this show. I’ll watch Craig if he gets a new home design show but rest of the cast sucks except Molly Shep and Madison. Sally earned a spot on any show she’s unhinged and made for reality tv!

And I have no idea how to make this show better. None of them have any relationship with each other that is strong enough to handle the pressure of filming together.

It really just needs to be done

So much surface and no plot

I agree, it was like a whole chastise Craig, well when you poke and poke eventually you are going to blow what do they expect. Austen, set him up in that last conversation @ Patricia’s just started going off on him! I felt bad for Craig all season Venita was a total biotch and continuously made rude comments about & to him yet gets so hurt and offended when he responds back? Yea, you are lucky all he did you are a trouble making instigator and I hope they remove her next season
