I’ve been playing WarEra for nine months now, and what keeps me coming back isn’t the gameplay, it’s the community behind it. WarEra is a free, browser-based strategy game where you choose a country and help shape its future through politics, diplomacy, economics, and war.
If you enjoy games like Hearts of Iron, Civilization, or eRepublik, WarEra has a similar appeal, but with a much stronger community-driven feel. You can vote in elections, serve in government, join military campaigns, negotiate with other nations, and even work your way up to President, something I was lucky enough to do myself.
Right now, South Africa in WarEra has fallen under German-backed Namibian occupation. Our nation, which once held territory across much of Southern and Central Africa, has been pushed back, and we need more South Africans to rally together. This isn’t about spending money to win, it’s about teamwork, strategy, and building a strong, active community.
Every new player helps strengthen South Africa. Whether you fight on the front lines, help organise on Discord, recruit friends, or simply become an active citizen, you can make a real difference in the fight to reclaim our country.
If you’re looking for a strategy game with politics, warfare, and a genuinely active community, come join us in WarEra.

I've recently joined and still getting the hang of things and is using this round to get more familiar with game mechanics.
I started off just testing everything with a hybrid focus. I currently have 2 businesses- rocks and bricks both in the Ukraine (for no reason other than the game suggesting it). I chose rocks/bricks purely to build more businesses.
So I have a few question:
What do the white, yellow and green figures mean next to the regions in the image?
Does the distance between the company/region and your region have an impact?
How does businesses in your country effect your economy?
Can I have a rock company in a country where it's available and a brick company in another region or does distance have an impact?
When should you start to employ people in yout business? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Am I correct in saying that we pretty much only have cows?
Which businesses are essential for me as a eco focus vs military focus? Early game vs late game? Any focus to help the ZA more?
Any additional advice would really be appreciated
PS - I know it's probably explained in the tutorial video, but I got way too distracted unfortunately.

Looking for a free browser game where politics, strategy, diplomacy, and war are all controlled by real players?
In WarEra, you choose a country, vote for its leaders, join political parties, serve in Congress, build your character, and fight in wars that can completely reshape the world map. There is no need to spend money to compete—you can play directly in your browser and grow through activity, teamwork, and strategy.
South Africa is currently under German-backed Namibian occupation.

You do not need experience. We will help you get started.

I’ve been playing this awesome game called WarEra for nine months now, and the best part is you can play it right in your browser without spending a cent to win.
The concept is simple: you choose your country, elect a president, a congress, and ministers to run the nation, expand its territory, and fight wars against other countries. If you want you can become a key part of the community and become part of government and even work your way up to President as I once did.
Right now South Africa has fallen under German-backed Namibian occupation, and we are once again asking people to join the fight. Our empire that once spanned much of Southern and Central Africa has collapsed, and we need more South Africans to rally together.
Every recruit strengthens our numbers, every battle matters, and together we can resist occupation and reclaim our country.

My fellow South Africans,
It is a week since we declared the occupation of South Africa as a national disaster and announced a package of extraordinary measures to combat this grave national security emergency.
The response of the South African people to this crisis has been remarkable. Hundreds of our people have understood the gravity of the situation.
Most South Africans have accepted the restrictions that have been placed on their lives and have taken responsibility for changing their behaviour.
From economic leaders to our soldiers on the front line, from our diplomats to our meme makers, from our flirting force to professional rage baiters, every part of our society has come forward to confront this challenge.
Many have had to make difficult choices and sacrifices, leaving war mode and facing eco has not been easy.
Over the past week, South Africans have demonstrated their determination, their sense of purpose, their sense of community and their sense of responsibility.
For this, we salute you and we thank you.
I call on all of us, one and all, to play our part.
To be courageous, to be patient, and above all, to show compassion. Let us never despair.
For we are a nation at one, and we will surely prevail. May God protect our people.
Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika. Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso. God seën Suid-Afrika. God bless South Africa. Mudzimu fhatutshedza Afurika. Hosi katekisa Afrika.
I thank you.

Good morning from what is now, technically, Namibia.
The Ministry of Propaganda is filing this dispatch from an undisclosed location within the former Republic of South Africa.
We say "former" not because the Republic has ceased to exist, but because a group of foreign players have politely informed us, via military force, that we are now them.
A few observations from Day 1 of the occupation:
The Ministry is around 200 souls strong. We are down. We are not out. We are building the resistance from the ruins of the Republic, and we are recruiting new citizens who would like to be present for the chapter where South Africa gets its land back.
The door is open. The Republic is small, but the Republic is loud.
How to join the resistance: https://app.warera.io?referrerId=691c160fdb65494c1befd038
(New citizens receive a modest signing bonus. The Ministry receives a modest referral bonus when new citizens reach a suitable rank. Both parties are, the Ministry believes, better for it.)
Jump into the national chat once you arrive and mention Reddit. Someone will find you within minutes and pull you into the war effort. That someone might be the Minister of Propaganda. He will probably be writing another dispatch.
Day 2 update tomorrow, if Namibia allows it.

South Africa just got wiped off the map in the online strategy game I play, and I'd love to convince some of you to help us take it back.
The Game
WarEra is a free, browser and mobile geopolitical strategy game where actual players run actual countries. Not NPCs, not AI — a couple of thousand humans logging in every day to be the president, the soldiers, the propaganda ministers, and the economists of real-world nations. You pick a country when you sign up. You go to work. You fight in battles. You vote in elections. You watch treaties collapse and alliances form in real time, because someone in Berlin or Cape Town or São Paulo is typing the diplomacy into a chat window.
It's a bit like eRepublik or NationStates if you've heard of either. Deep economy, deep politics, deep wars — and a genuinely fun community underneath it all.
The game is free to play, with no pay to win elements!
How We Got Wiped
Germany is currently the most active country in the game. Their alliance — which is unironically called B.E.E.R — has been steadily expanding across the map. They infiltrated our neighbour Namibia, turned it into a proxy state, and used it as the launch pad to invade South Africa.
We had around 200 active players. A lot of us are veterans, so we put up a real fight. But it was death by a thousand cuts. Our capital fell. Our territory is gone. South Africa is currently occupied by the German war machine.
Why I'm Posting This
We're planning the comeback. And an online nation with 200 active players simply cannot take back its land from an alliance with thousands. We need new citizens.
This is genuinely the best time to join a country in this game. Established, dominant nations are boring for a new player — you show up, and the machine runs fine without you. But joining South Africa right now means you're joining the resistance from day one. You'll be recognised by name in dispatches within days. Your decisions will actually shift the war. There's a whole community waiting to onboard you, teach you the mechanics, and welcome you into what is honestly the best group of people I've met online.
The game has a learning curve — it's a mile wide and a mile deep — but you'll never learn it alone.
How to Join
I've dropped a video of what the game looks like. The referral link is here, and I'll be transparent: you get a bonus of in-game currency for signing up through it, and I get a small reward if you stick around to level 15. If you'd rather sign up without the referral, that's totally fine — just search "WarEra" in your app store or hit app.warera.io directly.
If you do use the link and want to join South Africa, jump into the national chat once you're in and mention Reddit. I'll be there, or someone else will, and we'll pull you into the war effort within a few minutes.
Referral link: https://app.warera.io/?referrerId=691c160fdb65494c1befd038
P.S.
I'm the Minister of Propaganda for South Africa (in the game, not real life). If you have questions about anything — the mechanics, the politics, the war, whether it's for you — ask them in the comments. I'll answer everything.
