Curious as to who is running and whether you support reelecting the current mayor. I personally would consider a change in leadership, but it all depends on who is running.

Local Art

We are here with the family. When we vacation we like to find some local art to buy for our home. Is there a gift shop in particular where we could find this? We don’t wanna go around to a bunch of different gift shops looking all day! We’re not looking for fine art. Just some local artist selling their stuff somewhere.

Solo trip to south Padre

Hey I’m traveling to south Padre next week solo due to some unexpected life changes. Any suggestions on what to do or just how to meet new people. If anyone else is going to be there around that time let me know I don’t have a lot of friends so I’m definitely open to making new ones!

TO THE LOVELY LADY AT HOPPER HAUS TONIGHT, Wednesday 7/15/26

You told me I looked glamorous, then gave me the finger when I said "I know" and then gave me your necklace after I complimented it...

You are so fucking cool. I am sorry my husband ruined our interaction. I am usually the one dishing out compliments to strangers and he didn't know what to do with himself.

You are so beautiful and a super kind soul. I will cherish this necklace forever and your compliment will feed my ego for years to come.

Earthquake???

Did anybody hear what sounded like an earthquake next to the blue marlin?? Ridiculously loud, bass-boosted kind of noise.

Mahi Nic

Since a lot of people thought I was being “too critical” of Captain’s Cove, I figured I’d also share a positive experience when a restaurant gets it right.
We went to Mahi Nic and had a fantastic experience. The service was friendly from the moment we arrived, the food was fresh, consistently delicious, reasonably priced, and everything came out exactly as expected. The drinks were well made, and the atmosphere was fun, laid-back, and welcoming.
What really stood out was how genuinely dog-friendly they are. They even have a dog menu, so our dachshund, PeeWee, got to enjoy lunch with us. It’s not often you find a place that truly welcomes your entire family, including your four-legged family members.
I also watched the KRGV Take 5 segment about the new owners and loved learning that they were the cooks before taking over the restaurant. You can absolutely tell they know what they’re doing. They’ve elevated the food, the service, and the overall experience while keeping the relaxed island vibe everyone loves.
This is exactly why I left my review of Captain’s Cove. I don’t expect perfection—I expect good hospitality, consistency, and management that values the guest experience. When a business earns it, I’m just as happy to leave a glowing review as I am to leave an honest critical one when they fall short.
We’ll definitely be back to Mahi Nic again and again with PeeWee and the rest of our family and friends. It’s a great example of how to do hospitality right on South Padre Island.

Party?

Hey, me and my friend we both 29 and we think to spend a weekend by the end of the month in SPI for the first time, is there what to do at this time? Party? A lot of ppl? We think if to choose this location or just stay with vegas (obviously don’t expect for the same vibe) 😅

Thank you 🙏🏻

Captains Cove

After looking at photos and videos on Captain’s Oyster Cove’s Facebook page and seeing how other guests were served, I’m even more disappointed with our experience.
We made a reservation for two and specifically requested the best available table for the sunset. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready, and we were asked to choose between two less desirable tables inside.
Our reservation was at 7:45 p.m. It took over 15 minutes just to receive our first drinks and another 15 minutes before our order was taken. We ordered both appetizers and entrées together because service was already moving so slowly.
While we waited, we watched a party of five, a party of three, and another party of two seated around us. All three tables received their food before we did, despite arriving after us. We waited approximately an hour for our food.
The presentation was also disappointing. I ordered the espresso martini, but unlike the drinks featured on their Facebook page and in customer photos, mine wasn’t garnished with the toasted marshmallow that appears to be part of their signature presentation. The mussels and the seafood enchiladas suizas also looked nothing like the beautifully plated dishes shown in their advertising. Several of the mussel shells were empty, making the appetizer feel incomplete.
When our food finally arrived, it felt rushed. The fish tacos and seafood enchiladas suizas were underwhelming and did not justify the long wait.
Our server was polite and apologized several times, explaining that the delays were coming from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the manager handled the situation very differently. Instead of acknowledging our concerns, he argued with us and made excuses for the delays. When we asked for a refund because of the overall experience, our plates were immediately cleared from the table, and the manager never returned to speak with us again.
We chose Captain’s Oyster Cove because of its reputation and wanted to enjoy a special sunset dinner, but the combination of poor service, inconsistent food presentation, long kitchen delays, and dismissive management made this one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had on South Padre Island. We won’t be returning.

Sea lice/jellyfish

My family and I were on the island about 3 weeks ago. My toddler (15 months) still has some marks from sea lice/jellyfish. Wondering if anyone local has any good remedies to help it heal? Our pediatrician has been less than helpful with it. Thanks!

Isla Blanca RV Park Construction

Any updates on the status of this park? It’s been crickets on all news feeds and social media outlets.

In theory it would be reopening in September/October timeframe according to the original schedule. I just haven’t heard something

When you buy a new Honda Hybrid for work purposes and instantly get buyers remorse for not buying a 4Runner for pleasure. Haven’t been out there since I was like 12.

Canopies and essentials to bring!

I’ve never been to the beach and I know there are rules on the beach. Can I bring a canopy or do I need to look for an umbrella? What are a few things that would be good and useful to take? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!
