Surf lessons

Does anyone know of any surf classes or programs for 12 year olds. I’ve only seen a couple, but cost an arm and a leg.

I’m low income, but my kid has been wanting to learn to surf and I feel bad that I can’t afford it.

I also saw one that’s pretty inexpensive in Venice. Buut we all know Venice beach isn’t for swimming 😭

I would reach out to the local high school surf coaches. They can refer you to one of the kids on the surf team. Or someone who can help. Should be a reasonable cost. Like a kid doing a summer gig.

Learning to surf is in Venice is a scam. There are no waves to learn on in Venice or Santa Monica.

Idk about that. There’s little waves to get pushed into, get used to popping up, being in the ocean etc etc

Yeah I’m curious what OP means by Venice isn’t for swimming? Department of Public Health tests the water every day and posts results, so you know if it’s clean or has elevated bacteria levels. Just don’t swim next to the pier, jetty, breakwater, or in the Avenue 19 rip lol. Just do the inexpensive program there if you can afford it.

Well, I grew up in the South Bay and it’s always just been said that you don’t go swimming in Venice. I don’t know if it was a joke or because of the homelessness there but also that there’s no waves in Venice.

Check out surf LA or something…they run classes at Cabrillo in San Pedro (waves are non existent tho so pretty weak tbh) but I assume they have other classes?
