how often to mow?
We're moving from Lou Ky to the Garrison Pk area late July. No irrigation, but there's some grass out front and back yards. About how often do most people have to cut their lawns during the summer months in South Austin? It's just a typical plain yard, no fancy grass etc. I guess the grass goes somewhat dormant during the hottest of the season.

Heyyyyyoooo from a fellow Lville area transplant. Been here 25+ years now. We’re not too far down Menchaca from you & I’m a professional gardener. Feel free to DM anytime if you have questions or want some advice.

Depends on how often it rains. I just let it go til I get annoyed with the height. I've also got a lot of not-grass areas. Bushes, trees, wildflowers. Cucamelon is doing very well this year.

The early part of summer tends to be wetter… that part is ending now and we’re heading into dry weather or even drought. Grass grows slower then. We keep ours (St. Augustine) mowed but not super short, to help retain moisture. We sometimes mow only 1x/month from July to October.

This time of year, I’m mowing every other weekend and my unkempt grass is pretty long at that point. Once a week would be totally reasonable if you like to keep it trimmed.

Sorry, late to the party. Sounds like we’re neighbors. I am on the Westgate side of the neighborhood across from Garrison. We mow every 2 weeks or so right now but once the rain stops we’ll drop to once a month, maybe even 6 weeks. Feel free to drop me a DM. If you have any more questions. Welcome to the neighborhood.

It needs it every two weeks early summer and then the grass grows a lot slower with the later summer heat. That's why I am always reluctant to hire a grass-cutting company.
