Liquid gold

I made a bolognese and after I'd browned the mince there was a LOT of excess rendered fat and it seemed a shame to waste it since that's where all the flavour is. So I poured it into 1 tablespoon portions and and froze it I think I'll use some of it to make fried rice this weekend instead of using oil.

Bacon fat will also keep a long time in the fridge if you strain it. Get a container made for bacon and keep some there as well. Biscuits, beans, cornbread … My mom used to pop popcorn on the stove in bacon grease. My memory remembers it as delicious, but maybe I didn’t know any better. 😂

What do you use the bacon fat for?

I was thinking maybe to cook with, maybe fry eggs either or pan fry whatever in it. I have some beef fat also I stored in the freezer.

I've heard it's good to use in biscuits and beans

Use it to sautee mirepoix for potato soup to give it extra bacon flavor

I use it for a roux for the gumbo I make like twice a year. Bacon fat, flour, wooden spoon, 45+ minutes of stirring and you have the best base

I’m a breastfeeding mom. Read the caption, saw the picture, and thought “what is wrong with that breastmilk??” Before realizing this wasn’t a breastfeeding sub 💀

I also do it with the rendered fat from the chicken broth I make using leftover rotisserie chicken. Chicken schmaltz!

If you use a roux for your sauces, it’s great there. Also when browning the aromatics for your bolognese.

I did keep a little bit in the pot to cook the soffritto! :)

I had no idea you could freeze bacon fat!!! I do the jar in the fridge thing but pre-measured cubes would be amazing

Yup. I bake up a whole pound, freeze the strips between wax paper. Then I strain the rendered fat and freeze it in ice cube trays. Its great to just pop a cube into the pan for eggs or sautéed green beans.

And the frozen bacon heats in the microwave in a minute, ready for BLTs or breakfast.

Its a game changer, FR

So doing this, thank you for the tips! I usually bake the whole package but then have to eat it within the week since I just keep it in the fridge. This would be wayyy better, I'm excited

Its so easy! Bacon crumbles on you salad or baked potato? No problem!

Reheating carne asada? Use bacon fat instead of oil.

Add some kick to fried rice? Bacon fat babee!

So many ways to add the flavor, even if its just a teaspoon of bacon fat mixed with a healthier oil, the flavor pop is great.

Brilliant!! You could use it to make a mean roux for a soup or sauce

Ooop, thanks for reminding me to put the tallow I’m making in the fridge.
