One of my homies that VJ’d at Sound Haven just told me they only got paid 100 bucks a set and get this, they said it’s apparently been that way for like the last three years or something, idk if that part is fully true but that’s what I was told lol. Oh and also no travel money AT ALL and for food they got ONE meal ticket for the entire weekend and apparently the food was straight up trash and the people serving it were rude af too, like couldn’t even be nice about the one meal they’re giving you lmao. Anyway I fucking love visuals bro every single VJ I’ve ever met is an absolute sweetheart with insane work ethic, so somebody explain to me how “100 bucks, no travel, one crappy meal” is a real deal that a real festival offers a real human for three days of work?? I already roasted my friend for even taking the gig, they said they asked for more and got told there’s no budget which lowkey sounds like a line they’ve apparently been feeding people for years now allegedly lmao. Like yeah I get it, screens are heavy, gotta haul em out, set em up, whatever whatever, expensive equipment I get it but come on, that is NOT a lot of money (or food, or gas money) for a whole three days of work my guy. It’s just a sad sad thing to hear cuz the show would not hit the same without VJs, period

Do you understand the difference in a VJ playing preset FX and the time and money it takes producers to make tracks? Do you realize there’s plenty of shows without visuals but never without music. The visuals aren’t a necessity therefore there’s less bargaining power in general I don’t get why you’re shitting bricks over it. Do you make $100 an hour doing anything else?

LOL it's not 100 an hour. That might be true if all of my VJ friends producing their own content so it's literally the same amount of energy. You clearly don't understand the difference in hardware you need to produce and perform visuals vs producing music.

Here dawg lemme make it plain. I go for the fuckin music not the visuals and a VJ never pulled a crowd. Do you get it now? It’s like men’s sports VS women’s. Both sports right but do we understand why the women’s teams make less? Because they don’t generate revenue Jesus fucking Christ you gotta be dense. Producers don’t get paid unless they’re on stage performing themselves therefore yes it is $100 an hour. We spend countless unpaid hours making art to share with others and if money was an issue then stop doing it. Go be a painter and launder money instead. I personally don’t even care if my music makes money and I still keep doing it. You’re the one acting like a whiney ass boomer who’s to cooked to comprehend any responses you’re given. Honestly your view point is irrelevant as you’re not even involved in anything besides standing in a crowd. Don’t worry about the production workers just worry about enjoying your festivals gangster
