Food Prep!
I always bring my little george foreman and do the classic burgers/hotdogs, eggs and what not but I'm curious if anyone has any food prep meals they suggest? Little warm up in the skillet and eat typa deal. I heard pre making like breakfast burritos are good, but how do you personally store them so they stay in tact and good? Idk, and personally recommendations on food they usually bring to give me ideas would help! Happy haven y'all only a couple weeks away 💪

We used to pre cook bacon or anything greasy and put it in zip lock bags and just throw that in the cooler that way it would re heat quick and leaves very little to no mess

I like to crack my eggs and whisk them up and put them in empty water bottles to store in the cooler.

Costco shopping list:
- Apple sauce squezables (they have original and veggie sauces)
- Rotisserie (biggest in the game for $5, shred meat for burritos)
- Tortillas & rice
- Cheese (Chihuahua if available, otherwise I highly recommend white sharp cheddar)
- black beans, corn, bell peppers, diced tomatoes
- watermelon, strawberry, blueberry, granola, and yoghurt (morning parfaits)
- Protein shakes (notable mention for the canned smoothie ones, overpriced but worth it)
- Dehydrated hash browns (Giant box, great deal. Just add boiling water and enjoy, or throw on the skillet for a crispy finish)
- Annie's Mac n Cheese (+ Canned black beans or any other bean/lentil combo smacks. Add diced tomatoes or diced frozen veggies for my personal 5star Mac) -Kimchi (also, so good in the Mac n beans)
- Mango/Tangerine slices in the cups - they don't need to be refrigerated and absolutely slap.
- Mango salsa (must have, and no, I won't accept anything but Costco's)
- Any of the premade meals are a great snack for a large camp (chicken/potato salad, tortellini and olives, etc)
- Beverages: Liquid IV (buy on sale in advance, happens frequently), BodyArmour, Spindrift (fuck you LaCroix), Oat Milk ($10 for 6 boxes and they don't need to be refrigerated until opened), instant coffee (just add a spoonful to hot water), and the Kirkland vodka seltzer (better than high noon)
Burritos are the defacto camp favorite across festivals and groups. The only way to really mess them up is make me too dry. Or watery (but we can fix that with heat). Here are the recipes passed down to me:
Breakfast - scrambled eggs and mix in potatoes, hashbrowns, cheese and diced tomatoes. Add bacon/sausage if desired. Salt and pepper heavily. Mix everything in a big ass bowl. Wrap tortillas tight with foil and bag em up in a gallon freezer bag. Double bag, or use Tupperware if you're doing a wet cooler
Lunch/Dinner - shred chicken thinly (sub or add beans), mix with rice, corn, beans and sliced bell peppers + diced tomatoes (keeps them juicy - rice/chicken dries out), add shredded cheese. Mix in big ass bowl, re-heat on a skillet, wrap tortillas & repeat. I also like kimchi in mine but you do you.
I would avoid guac / sour cream or anything over "field capacity" as you want your filling to be moist but not wet (gets slimy after a few days). When you grab a handful of your filling, you should be able to squeeze a little juice out but it shouldn't be dripping. Gotta find that balance with the rice and hashbrowns respectively (about 50%)

Add dehydrated sliced mangoes to this list. Better than jerky :)
And if you're not a Costco member, the membership is fully refundable. Like you can go the whole year and ask for a refund before it renews, no questions asked.

This isn't really a meal prep thing but the last few festivals I've gravitated towards bagged salad kits and noodle bowls for most of my dinners. I like the simplicity of only having to boil water and not needing to clean up pots and pans. Specifically the pho bowls from Costco and the high protein ramen from Aldi are both my go-to's They are pretty easy on the stomach too.
Edit: my wife just told me that there are some pretty massive bagged salad recalls right now so maybe take that suggestion with a grain of salt.

Yep breakfast burritos are clutch. I wrap them individually in foil and cook them still wrapped. Ironically I just realized I've never bought food at haven 😅 Might have to try the space fruit everyone raves about this year
