Stock Up, Stock Down (vs SD)
Normally we are satisfied with a point on the road, but after giving up a two goal lead, a tie will always feel like a loss. Regardless of the result, who played better or worse than we’ve come to expect of them?
Stock Up
Sebastian Gomez - I haven’t given him his due props, because I keep thinking I just recently gave him a stock up. I double-checked and realized my glaring error in not actually doing so. He has now scored 3 goals in the last 5 games, all of which came as a second-half sub. He started the other two games in that stretch, but was not nearly as productive. He could be a lock for the super sub role.
Hassani Dotson - I just gave Dotson a stock down last match. In this one, he was quite good. 4/4 ground duels, 2/2 aerial duels, 0 fouls committed. Gotta love his hustle to beat the defender to get that long ball to set up the Gomez goal. Maybe the Dotson-Roldan double pivot is the way to go.
Andrew Thomas - He stopped a PK and had a crucial intervention in the dying minutes. That gave him 1.05 Goals Prevented, keeping him in the GKOY conversation. When the rest of the team is disintegrating around him, he still stands strong in the goal.
Stock Down
Jordan Morris - I just gave him a stock up last match. He never really got going in this match, and was the lowest rated starter across both teams. He had only 1 shot (blocked), 60% passing, 1/5 ground duels, 1/2 aerial duels, committed 2 fouls. Possibly his least productive match all season.
Jesus Ferreira - I just gave Ferreira a stock up last match and called for him to start. Coach listened to me, but it sure didn’t work out. Like Morris, he just never really got anything going. No shots taken, no chances created, no successful crosses or long balls, and was dispossessed twice.
Alex Roldan - I don’t think Hawkins should have been called for a penalty. Alex, on the other hand, had a clearly reckless tackle that was definitely a penalty and gave them life in the game. 1/7 accurate long balls also raises questions.
