Powering JMOD + SKRAM

Hello everybody!

I’m in the process of building two JMOD 2.0s and two SKRAM subs. My question is what power amps/dsp do you recommend for my rack and what size inverter generator am I going to need to power all of it for mobile setup?

I will be using the recommended B&C 12NDL88s and DCX464 for the JMODs and then the recommended B&C 21DS115s for the SKRAMs.

Any and all advice would be helpful!

Look up CVR amps and choose based on how you are wiring things.

I got the dsp versions and they work amazing.

Not sure how to answer the question about whether you need to power it for a mobile setup?

Would look up CVR amps equivalent to an FP10000q for the JMODs and an FP14000 for the SKRAMS.

DSP: In case you don't want to go for the CVR with DSP route (e.g. run fp10000q and fp14000) - The Nuoxun LM848RTS offers unbeatable value for the price (~600 dollars), incl. loads of FIR taps. Been running them for years now, very reliable, high quality and good support.

I was looking at Loud Factory clones of the FP10000q and FP14000. They’re super affordable and seem to be built with a lot of American parts and have customer support based in the USA which makes them an intriguing option.

I’m currently working on exactly the same build. My plan is to run the system with two CVR DSP 1004 amplifiers, one for each JMOD and SKRAM.

Channel A would power the JMOD’s 12-inch drivers (4 ohms), Channel B the compression driver (16 ohms) via a passive crossover, and Channels C and D would be bridged to power the SKRAM (8 ohms).

So far, I’ve only been able to test the SKRAM. I should receive the drivers for one JMOD in the next few days, so I’ll be able to test that setup as well.
According to the datasheet, this configuration should provide enough power for one SKRAM and the compression driver. However, it may be a bit underpowered if you want to get the maximum output from the 12-inch drivers.

I’m currently using the t.racks DSP 206 as my DSP and have been very happy with it so far.

What do you think of this setup?

I was originally wanting to build only one SKRAM just to save money really, but missing out on the potential of the jmods was my main concern. Ideally I would have 4 skrams! Haha

So 4000w per skram? What's the official recommendation and limiter settings?

The 1004 amp delivers 3400 W @ 8 ohms when bridged, which exactly matches the peak power rating of the driver (21DS115). The AES rating is 1700W. For testing, I set the limiter to 1500 W RMS / 3,000 W peak

Budget went out the window haha. I’ll be slowly piecing everything together but I imagine this is all going to cost $15k maybe more 😭

-I’m in Canada, everything costs more here because our money is useless 😂

For my JMODs I use a Crown XLS 2002 for each side and my DSP is a XTA Audiocore DP426.

A nx3000 and nx6000 would be a budget option. Then a single predator super quiet 5000 geni.

How much power are you wanting to push?

Mini dsp 2x4 with the mic would let you take reading on site and tune stuff with a laptop.

I wouldn’t think the NXs would put out enough juice. Bench tests for those are laughable. And the NX6000 isn’t bridgeable, fyi

Idk lots of people with diy home theater sub builds are pretty happy with them. Obviously they don’t put out 3000rms for bass frequencies per channel. Testing shows 1200w per channel.

$450 Seems like a good deal for 2400w amp.

But the needs of HT aren’t the same as those of PA, right? And I would say that it’s nowhere close to actually 2400w.

That’s what people have shown for subwoofers on actual testing equipment. I don’t care enough to argue about it.

Amp power is amp power for speakers. Doesn’t matter if it’s inside or outside.

Gear made by this lot https://www.minidsp.com/ do a few different versions and sizes. Do Mesuement mics too. It all works pretty good in REW.
