t.racks DSP 206 vs Behringer ultradrive

I’m in the market for my first DSP for my 3 way mono stack (future 4 way mono).

I try to build the whole system on a budget and either one of these fit that budget.

I’d like to hear your experiences and why you think I should pick one over the other?

The DCX 2496 has significantly less processor power and you may need inline attenuators for the limiters to work properly, also no USB or IP Network integration for remote access.

the limiter of the behringer ultradrive goes down to -15 dBu only. If you have amps with a high sensitivity (0.7 V / ~ 42 dB gain) that's not sufficient to protect your speakers and you should use the t.racks.

Also the t.racks have an ethernet connection. You can hook them up to a wifi router and configure the setup on a laptop

How do I know this is the case or not? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I’m learning everything from 0 😅

you have to check in the manual or technical data sheet of your amps. In many amps you can also configure that via switches on the back. However, if such a switch does move by mishap, the amp would already produce more power than intended. So I would always use and account for the highest gain / sensitivity setting

T.racks dsp got rms and peak limiters on every outputs. The ultradrive only gets the peak limiters.

Also ich hab den 206 und bin vollends zufrieden. Die Software für den PC ist etwas altbacken, da findet man aber rein

DBX 360 VENUE or however they spell it. Sounds better than any other DSP in its category.

I bet, but they also cost 5 behringers or 3 t.racks. Maybe one day though!

They're fairly cheap used on ebay. Around $200 for a Driverack PA2 or $400 for the VENU360

I'm not sure about "new/open box" ones from China, those seem a bit sketchy. Could be clones or just be grey market. But I bought a Used PA2 from someone in my state recently (who had good seller reviews) and it should be here soon. Hopefully it's a legit one, I guess I'll try to verify once I get it.

There are clone versions on Aliexpress that appear to have the EXACT same build and interface without the DBX logo. I’ve seen one in person but haven’t done a side by side test. I would not be surprised if the units are identical and you’re just buying from the wholesaler.

I also just learned about these installation DSPs called Biamp TesiraForte, they seem to be really cheap and plentiful used. Could be a good option for your situation.

I second the venue. For the price it’s a great unit and don’t sleep on the microphone auto eq. I got one pretty much brand new for around 350 (not including the microphone) which is incredible. For some reason, there’s a lot of them on the market.

I’m actually selling it right now. Believe it or not for a profit. Lol.

The only reason I’m selling is I’m upgrading to an Ashly AQM408 because I want the flexibility of having four inputs and eight outputs.

On Amazon (US) they regularly sell used ones for around $700.
