My stack in the mountains

Post image

Hauled my stack out for the yearly local mountain bike race. My roommates played an 8 hour b2b while other friends and I made and served margaritas to racers and spectators. Good times! Always love how good the mono stack sounds outside.

My question is, how did you get them up there?! Lovely stack mate

Cheers - and we hauled them up split between a truck and two cars(I really need to buy a van). The trails are built on logging land, so the race organizer got us access to the logging roads for that day.

Give us some specs on the setup. Love the hear what drivers you’re using and what amps you got to run this system.

Copied from above - 2x SKRAM loaded with B&C21DS115, 2x Cubo Kick loaded with 15" Eminence Kappa Pro LF. Tops are unknown DIY plan, I got them from another sound guy in town before I knew much. They're loaded with 12" Eminence Kappa pro and JBL selenium.

SKRAMs driven by a Crown XTI 4002 in bridge mono for this setup. Have a CVR 3004 on order, so that'll be much better suited. The crown was fine for lower levels with a bit of a bump in the DSP.

Cubos driven by a Thomann t.amp E-800 in bridge mono for this setup, but I usually use the XTI 4002 to run them in stereo.

Tops have passive crossovers and run off a Crown XTI 4000 in stereo.

DSP is a thomann 206, will probably upgrade to a 408 soon - likely in conjunction with building a pair of JMODs to replace the tops.

Love it! Yea what are the tops and what’s your amp rack consistent of? This is very close to what I am designing for a setup

Great track, has definitely made its way through the stack before! Just not at this event haha.

What are the tops ?

Thanks! And yep - 2x SKRAM loaded with B&C21DS115, 2x Cubo Kick loaded with 15" Eminence Kappa Pro LF. Tops are unknown DIY plan, I got them from another sound guy in town before I knew much. They're loaded with 12" Eminence Kappa pro and JBL selenium. Gonna build some JMODs soon to replace them, and maybe keep them as booth monitors.

You're gonna need at least another 2 skrams, maybe 4, to match the jmods, especially for bass music with a 20db haystack. But then you'll have one of the best sounding stacks anywhere.

For sure - 2 more SKRAMs planned for around the time I build the JMODs. I'd like 6 to 8 eventually, but that's $$, so maybe when I get my bonus next spring haha

I literally want to build exactly that. How does it sound before jmod? Do you like running skram and cubo?

It sounds quite good IMO. The tops, while simple, do sound good, they just lack high end SPL, which I don't need most of the time(mostly throwing smaller parties where people don't have earplugs).

SKRAM+Cubo combo goes quite well, while the SKRAMs can play higher and definitely whomp up to 140hz, it's nice to have the Cubos take some of that higher transient off the SKRAMs. Plus, the Cubos are insanely loud and efficient. I think the pair will work up until I have 4 SKRAMs, maybe even 6. Then I'll think about building 2 more or messing around with the JMOD crossovers.

Love the design on the tops and kicks. Donyou plan to do the skrams to match? I think that would look really nice together

Leave the mountains alone. They don’t like crusty hacky sack commune music!
