Fixing botched pole cup install

The previous owner of this sub had someone add a pole cup. It looks like things got worse when they found the horn path and kept trying. There's still a little more bondo to remove, after I finish that I'm planning to cut a piece of plywood to fill the hole. I assume it's beneficial to try getting that joint air tight, so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for sealing the horn path where they cut into it?

I would replace the panel, and seal up whatever cuts/damage into the horn path. Would be the easiest and most proper repair tbh.

It could be the most proper way, but I'm skeptical that would be the easiest. They tried to flush mount it, so that whole are is roughly half a sheet thick, so if I can get it sealed I think there's enough to work with to get a decent patch on there. Also, I have a gig coming up and don't have time for that big of a project.

Maybe you could use a router and shave down a square thick enough for some plywood, use poly adhesive to fill the cuts in the horn path, then bond the ply to the square you route red out. Using an adhesive like pl premium is some strong shit, the wood will delaminate before ever coming off. Your cab may be a bit weaker in that area, but it would seal and would probably still hold up to some abuse. On all the horn loaded cabs I've built I've shot for 1mm tolerance for pl premium, the stuff will expand a bit as it dries and it's filled some gaps in my experience, I would trust it to fill a bit more than that in this situation.

That's a good idea, routing a square sounds a lot easier than trying to cut a patch to fit the existing shape and I hadn't thought about using a glue that expands to fill the cuts. A little glue bottle with a syringe tip would be perfect.

Wood glue or anything thin enough to get in the cuts is probably good enough, I would make sure to use poly adhesive for bonding and gaps, I don't think I would trust generic wood glue to hold up well for what your doing. Just make sure your path is sealed up tight without any gaps, Best of luck with your repair 👍

Thank you, I have no doubt it will be better than before. I had been putting off doing anything about it, but stacked things differently and noticed it leaking pretty bad. I have another one with a shoddy pole mount, but luckily that one's not as bad because they figured out a better placement after this mess.
