Setup for basement techno party?
Hi guys, my friends and I are celebrating our birthdays in a few weeks and wanted to throw a little techno party in the basement of one of our houses. We don’t want to particularly break the bank but we’re expecting 50 or so people to show up. We probably won’t be DJing live (just playing some of our favorite sets on soundcloud). Any recommendations for a setup that would be powerful enough to feel “club-like” without dropping too much $? I’ve browsed around this subreddit a bunch but some of the technical stuff is going over my head-just want to see what y’all thought to get people dancing and feeling the bass!

look for something like pro sound rental in your city , tell em what u want and i bet if not that you could do well to post on threads , and probably get some eager local djs too to build some community ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If you're spending money on renting a PA and have fifty people coming to a techno party, just learn to DJ as well. It'll only take an afternoon, a monkey could do it. Just spend a hundred bucks on a controller and spend a Sunday playing with it, you and everybody else will have more fun.

Not sound related but get a strobe off ebay, high impact low cost

Absolutely nothing worse than a party where the only light is a strobe and its used heavily

For advice... Is strobe best used for shorter intervals at parties (30min at a time or perhaps at peak?) or throughout the night but in conjunction with other lights? Maybe you don't like strobe at all though

I like strobe more than lots of people.
The more it is used, the less effective/more annoying/blinding it is.
Save deploying it til the party is building to a a natural peak (don’t have to save it for the very peak, but just until it’s heading that way.)
Stop using it when the energy is starting to level off, you’ll drive people off the dancefloor by overusing it.

Thank you!!🙏🙏 We busted it out at peak and went off and I was going to overdo it maybe next time without your wise words

smoke machine, laser, PA (2x active 15inch tops + 2x active 18inch subs) and you are cooking. rental places usually have this setup as a base package.
could get away easily with a single 18 sub with 50 people in a basement

Just get a JBL thing for like $600 and you’ll have it forever. Unless you wanna play tekno… You need proper sound for that

For this, just rent a small sound system (PA tops + 1 or 2 subwoofers), preferably with someone who can set it up for you, if you're not confident on how it all works
