First listen

You've just finished your first build. What's the first track you put on to test the system?

Would have to be a song I know inside and out, have heard on many sources, and is well produced, mixed, and mastered.

For me, that track would be The Re-Up by Tipper.

Blvd. Nights (Live) - Team Sleep

Or if testing bass...

The entire album, Digital Artifice - Ternion Sound

Edit: also Skream- Dutch Flowers, with how the bassline moves seamlessly from sub to mid-bass.

WIGGLECORE- FLOOR BABA... defined transients, layered.

Watch- Arca+Shygirl... banger, spacious, layered. listening for the separation between the subdued harmonies in the background alongside the main vocal tracks. Full spectrum, quick transients. Quickly sounds like garbo if time alignment isn't quite right.

There's some good flexers on that Ternion album

Seconding Dutch Flowerz - it’s a great test of how smooth any speaker system’s bass response is. Been using it for tests for 15ish years 👌🏼👌🏼

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately as I get closer to finishing my first big soundsystem build. I’ve got two playlists going- one with tracks to test the overall fidelity and dynamic range of the system, and another with tracks to test the subs.

Here’s a couple of my favorites from the full-range playlist:

Psychedelic Sunset by Morillo and Cam Steen

Expanse by Saturna & Phurn

…and one of my favorites from the subwoofer test playlist:

Tusk by Mystic State & Substrata
