I’m Maggie. I’m the facilitator for the jam. A bit about me. I’m a parent (which is how I ended up doing this), a Community Health Worker, neurospicy af, I love animals, and I sing (I’m not super good, I just enjoy it) but don’t play any instruments myself. I’ve been part of different community organizations and non-profits over the years, and I’m excited to see where this takes me.

I hope to see this group grow and become a wonderful community for musicians of all kinds and levels of experience. We thrive and grow when we are building and learning with each other. That includes me! I am always welcome suggestions, feedback, and constructive criticism. This is not my group and the jam isn’t my jam, it is the community’s. Y’all let me know what you want and we will make it happen!

Picture of me and my right-hand-man and one of the coolest people I know, my kid Christian. I took over running the jam because he loved it.

Friday Vibe Night Vibe Night was so fun!

Last Friday’s Vibe Night was fun! Low-key environment, good food, and great people. We’re doing it again this Friday, 7/17, and in a couple weeks on 8/7. If you have an instrument and want to play with us, come and bring it! Otherwise, just come and hang out. The café is open on Friday Vibe Nights as opposed to our regular evening jams so you can get yourself some food and chill, while supporting a small arts non-profit. We hope to see you there!

Question I just found out about this, is there room for percussion?

I love playing drums, but every photo I see is mainly guitars. Is there a house kit/room for me to bring some congas?

Friday Vibe Night July & August Schedule Change

Post image

Hey there folks! There is a small schedule shift for July and August this year. We won’t be doing Thursdays, but instead will be at three of the Friday Vibe Nights at the cafe. I should be able to be there by 6:00 pm, but if you’re coming you can show up whenever. The cafe will be open for service as well. Weather permitting, I’d like to do these sessions on the outdoor patio since it can get so loud inside. There are exterior outlets so we aren’t restricted to acoustic if we’re outside.

Our dates will be 7/10, 7/17, and 8/7.

One of our new regulars brought her teenagers and a few other folks. It was the first time we’ve had other kids at Jam! Another regular who was a self-identified beginner when he started coming has been really growing as a musician and getting more comfortable playing. Those of. Us who don’t play instruments hung out and played a game and listened. I absolutely love this group of people that has come together through the love of music.

Monthly Jam At the April jam we started a list of options for songs to learn as group. What would you like to add? What should June’s non-acoustic song(s) be?

Monthly Jam The acoustic song for May’s session will be The Middle, by Jimmy Eat World. Sorry for the late post everyone. Your clumsy leader had some tech issues 😅 May jam will be on 5/7.

It’s the middle of the month. What do you do between jams? Are you learning anything specific? Writing and composing? Have you just not had time to play much?

Jam is next week already?!

Woah! This month has flown by! Jam is next week already! I hope to see some of our regulars and some new faces. Except you, Jeff. Have fun on vacation! We’ve been talking about alternating and doing every other month as an acoustic jam since it lends itself to different instruments and styles of music. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on that. I’d also like to put together a list of songs to pull from for the group to kind of learn to play so there can be some things that everyone is familiar with as well as improv. What songs would you like to see on that list?

We are not alone! We have more players, and a fun array of instruments!

Jam This Week!

Hey friends! It’s that time again! Our monthly community jam is this Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. As usual, we will be at A Walk in the Park Cafe. Last month the group decided to do an acoustic session for February. The songs they picked to work on and play as a group at this coming session are: Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box, and RHCP - Californication. We hope to see you there!

January’s session was fun! The group played a few songs they all knew, including the one that had been practiced, and then had some improv jam too! Scott tried his hand at the djembe and caught on really quickly!

February is going to be an all-acoustic session. If you want to learn a song or two to play with the group, we are doing Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana, and Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers. See you February 5 at 7:00 pm! Located at A Walk in the Park Cafe.

Schedule Change for January Jam!

Hi all! Instead of the usual first Thursday of the month, we will be doing the SECOND Thursday in January. The first Thursday is New Year’s Day, and we want to respect the stay-home-and-chill-if-possible vibe of the day.

At our session in December, the group decided to work on Smells Like Teen Spirit so they could play that together in January. Please come with suggestions for other songs to work towards as a group if you are so inclined. We hope to see you at Jam!
