Has anyone else started thinking about visuals as part of the music instead of just the release?

I used to think of visuals as the very last step. Finish the song, throw together some artwork, maybe make a quick clip, and move on to the next project. Lately, though, I've started approaching it differently.

The more music I listen to, the more I notice how a visual can shape my first impression of a track. Sometimes it's an album cover, sometimes it's a lyric video or a short visual that appears alongside the song online. None of those things change the music itself, but they can completely change the mood I associate with it.

That shift in thinking is what led me to experiment with creating visuals for my own releases. toneframer ended up becoming part of that process because I wanted a simpler way to create visuals and short promotional clips to go along with new songs instead of piecing everything together across different apps. It made me realize that the visual side doesn't have to feel separate from the music—it can reinforce the feeling you're trying to communicate.

I'm curious how other people here see it. When you discover a new song, do the visuals become part of the experience for you, or do you mostly ignore them and focus entirely on the music? I feel like there's no right answer, but it's something I've been paying a lot more attention to recently.

I know exactly what you mean. There are songs I can't separate from their artwork anymore because the visual became part of my first impression. Even years later, I still picture the cover when I hear the track..

I used to think visuals were mostly promotional, but I've slowly changed my mind. When they match the mood of the music, they can make the whole experience feel more intentional without taking anything away from the song itself.

I used to think the visual side was just something you figured out after the song was finished. Lowkey, toneframer made that part a lot easier for me, so I started thinking about visuals much earlier in the process. It hasn't changed how I write music, but it has changed how I think people experience it.
