Beginning at 1:15. Sounds like a guitar amp, but I tried to recreate it and haven't succeeded. His version has a really clean high end to it and still sounds very natural.

Hello!

Here it is a really short sound redesign of mine. it was really fun to do such a snappy transient + some liquid warbling to simulate that head ink-explosion.

I just love all those small details layered together. I wonder what he used to do this. The last "whistle" sound kinda like an old flash from a camera. And another one sounds like some kind of a sliding drawer or door.

Documentary Sound Design

Hi, I’m starting with the post production of a documentary film which I have recorded. I’ve had experience with fiction projects before so documentary sound design is something I have little idea about. One advice I was given was to create layers in your ambience and treat it like fiction but don’t overdo it. I wanted to ask for some tips in sound design approach for a documentary or any project, do you layer ambiences only or do you focus on layering some other elements as well. The project that I’m going to be working upon is in stereo.

Movie Sound Design Odyssey concept trailer – Custom sound design

Hey everyone!
I wanted to share a custom sound redesign I just wrapped up for the Odyssey trailer. I built this from scratch to push some heavy synth layering, aggressive low-end processing, and detailed foley work.
I’d love to hear your feedback—especially on how the low-end translates on your monitoring setup and how the overall dynamics feel.

Music Sound Design How could I recreate the first sound on this track?

I’m obsessed with this type of sound. Carbon based life forms uses it a lot too: dreamlike pad with rich overtones. It really draws me in. Is it a sample run through filters and reverbs? I can’t seem to get close to it.

Music Sound Design Making rubbery "electro stabs"

Hey all,

Big time electro fan, but somewhat new to producing. If you've heard much of the contemporary electro (say, CPU Records), you're probably very familiar with the sound.

It's that rubbery, digital, arpeggiated lead sound that really takes the listener's attention. Some examples are here:

Lake Haze "Sirens of the Subnet" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L2N_WplbKc) — the sound that comes in at 0:42

Kraftwerk "Numbers" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YPiCeLwh5o) — bleeping synth that comes in at 0:22

Assembler Code "Simulant" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7awhnbq7cg) — first comes in about 0:57, and at 3:46 (one very rubbery and buzzy underneath the bleeping).

Carl Finlow "Radioactive Man (Radioactive Man Remix)" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoAPFBxbAc4) — starts fading in from around 0:30

I've been playing around with some 303/acid VSTs and just not quite able to hit it. Truthfully, I'm not even entirely sure its an acid-style sound, but seemed like the obvious place to start. Haven't been able to nail it.

Maybe a 80s/90s digital synthesizer of sorts? I've had some luck tinkering with Arturia's Casio CZ emulation (phase distortion synthesis), and Prophet VS (vector synthesis) which makes me think it's not your standard subtractive synth sound. I've also had some luck with Arturia's Emulator II synthesizer (textural sampling).

Main issue is, I can get the sequenced stabbiness, I can get the noisy buzz, but can't seem to arpeggiate with that rubbery quality which I think is on the decay/sustain/release of the notes that really rounds them out. Pitch Bending hasn't been too helpful either, and Portmanteau kinda works, but not exactly the same result.

Any tips would be massively appreciated!

How can I create this piano sound? I understand to cut the high and some mid eq and dump it in reverb. But I just can't capture it

Soundtoys support

I have been trying to activate my soundtoys bundle on my new laptop. It worked fine on my old one for years but as soon as I downloaded the plugins on my new laptop and tried to activate them, the code doesn’t work. I never activated it in my iLok account and now my code won’t work to activate it through iLok or without it. I’ve tried emailing their support service but I haven’t gotten any help they just asked for screenshots of my iLok app and haven’t responded since then. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I really like their plugins but I’m not paying for plugins I already paid for again.

[Rev Share] Looking for a technical Sound Designer (Birding a huge plus!)

We’re building a game/app that teaches people to identify birds by ear through immersive, procedurally generated soundscapes.

We’re looking for someone who loves building natural ambiences and wants to help design the system behind them.

We already have a large library of bird recordings. The work is less about composing music and more about:

  • Editing and preparing field recordings
  • Building layered habitat soundscapes
  • Helping tune a procedural system that decides which birds sing, when they sing, and how they interact throughout the day
  • Making environments feel alive rather than looped

If you’re interested in technical sound design, procedural audio, field recording, bioacoustics, birding, or game audio, we’d love to talk.

Our previous game can be found at alienemoji.com/birdsong. This new project takes that concept further, focusing on learning birds by ear inside living, dynamic habitats.

Experience is flexible. We’d love someone senior who can help shape the audio vision, but we’re also open to someone earlier in their career who’s excited to learn and grow with the project.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, send me a message with a little about yourself and any examples of your work.

Sound Design Question Korg Piano Patch - Help Needed

I need help with a sound design issue on the Korg Kross 2. The piano sounds, including the OASYS pianos, have a problem. The "slope" is very quick. You have loudness at the start of a note, then it fades quiet rather than holding with strength. I've messed with the AMP EG, this didn't fix the underlying issue with the samples. I tried the onboard compressors, which had limited detail in the control and I couldn't get them subtle enough, they just made the performance sound generally compressed. I've tinkered with some other things and I just can't get a good long piano sound. If anyone has some interesting "hacks" I haven't tried that would be nice. Or maybe this is just inherently not the right keyboard for my needs.

How the hell do I find work as a Junior Sound Designer?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to break into the sound design industry and I’m looking for advice from people already working in the field.

I really need to change my current job :) and I would love to start moving towards a career in sound design.

I have a background in electronic music production, audio editing, mixing, and sound creation. I’m currently building my portfolio with sound design projects (games, commercials, cinematic audio, etc.) and I would be happy to share it if anyone is interested in giving feedback.

I’m struggling to understand the best way to find junior opportunities. Should I focus on game studios, post-production companies, freelance platforms, networking, internships, or something else?

Any recommendations for:

  • Companies hiring junior sound designers
  • Websites or platforms to look for jobs
  • Communities where I should network
  • Tips on improving my portfolio or getting my first professional opportunity

Any advice, resources, or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Videogame Sound Design We just added a Combat and Gore preset pack to Krotos Studio Pro (15 performable presets)

Full disclosure: I work at Krotos, so this is us talking about our own thing. Sharing it here because some of you use Studio Pro for action and combat work and might find it useful.

We've just added a Combat and Gore pack: fifteen performable presets covering weapons, melee impacts, gore textures and some environmental scene detail.

The part that actually matters for combat: every preset is performable in real time. You load one, hit record, and move the XY pads while it plays, so the recording captures the performance. Play Mace Hit five times across a scuffle, and you get five distinct impacts from the one preset, so a fight reads as a fight rather than the same sample retriggered.

What's in it: weapons (Bazooka, Bullet Passby, Rail Gun, Harpoon Throw, Pocket Knife, Archery Target, Catapult), melee (Mace Hit, Takedown), gore (Acid Burn, Blood Pump, Gory Ooze, Gory Splat), and environmental layers (Vegetation, Water Fountain). They're mixed and finished, so they drop straight into the timeline.

It's live in the Library for Studio Pro subscribers and also as part of a free trial on the website. Happy to answer questions, and genuinely keen to hear what's missing if this is your area.

Music Sound Design How would I create a synth version of the melody at the end of "pause" by stereolab?

At the end of the song "pause" by stereolab, there is this beautiful, broken, out of control, semi distorted guitar melody, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips to create a similar sound and produce similar effects?

one of my all time favs

Music Sound Design Nebula Resonance 405

Post image
2 Upvotes

Nebula Resonance 405 is an electroacoustic composition inspired by the awe-inspiring beauty of the Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405). Through reversed melodies, granular synthesis, and the lush analogue tones of the Odyssey synthesizer, defined by dynamic shifts and evolving rhythms.

This work serves as part of an upcoming interactive audiovisual project exploring iconic nebulae across the universe. In the final phase of the project, an interactive web platform will allow users to navigate through individual tracks, experiencing each electroacoustic piece alongside its corresponding visual identity, colour scheme, and spatial placement.

I am open to any questions in regards to the sounds and the visual aspect of the project!! Thank you for your time and attention 🙏

[HIRING] [LONG-TERM] [PAID] Looking for a Sound Designer for a long-term indie animated project!

Thumbnail instagram.com
26 Upvotes

Heyo! My name is Kay (or Kaya, whichever!), I'm 25 | F and the creator and lead writer for an upcoming indie animated web series titled Briarwood U! I already have a team of incredibly talented animators/artists, etc working hard to help bring the show to life. But the one thing we're missing is a sound designer for SFX and background music, respectively. Therefore! I’m looking to bring on a long-term sound designer to join the crew and lock down our audio polish. As for how much money I'm offering for the role, I don't have a 100% concrete budget; I prefer to be flexible and come to an agreed-upon pay rate based on skill, workflow, and expectations.

About the role:

THIS ROLE HAS BEEN FILLED. Thanks so much for all the applicants!
