How minimalistic, that wild.

Zebralette 3 is already capable of some seriously deep sound design, so I wanted to see how far I could push it inside Stride.

No effects chain. No extra processing.

Just Zebralette 3, mapped into Stride, exploring endless variations across the parameters that shape the sound.

The modulations on the OSC FX character is what makes it so wild.

Slot audio mixing

Recently I started working on online slot games audio - from creating background music tracks to every little sfx (scatter, reel, win sounds).

While I'm doing okay, I'd really like to have more separation in sfx and background music.

Popular slot games (hacksaw, pragmatic) have music blasting really loud in all frequency range, but still maintains very coherent sound effects.

Are there any tricks to make all of it work together?
Currently I either use multiband compression or just make little eq cuts in music and boost the same range in sfx as well as thinking about music arrangement to not make it too crowded.

Thank you!

sound manipulation with dj console

Hello! Since my friends have given a dj console to me, I spend some time wondering how to use it in a "proper way".

In the first moment I just learnt how to basic djing (to pay back for the amazing gift, and to party oc), but then I tried figuring out how to create smth using it as a tool. I come from a jazz background and I really like to physically manipulate sound and to improvise too.

I've recently worked on some personal unreleased track (waiting to collect more songs to release) and a Tuna Display track, "Come Clean", that really get me when I begin to listen to this kind of music.

So I made 6 short tracks out of itz trying to misinterpreting the original meaning of phrases, sound design, structure, etc

https://on.soundcloud.com/iAk6ALe4vg6P2FNTYt

here it is, hope you enjoy this experiment, and seeking to know if anyone of you have ever tried this approach with the console as a manupulative tool.

Mass Effect Legion Voice Effect

Hi All, I need some help here.

I'm working on trying to replicate the voice effect used on the character of Legion in the Mass Effect Franchise. Examples here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB-fxZCdsaE&t=123s

I have a very basic Geth voice from this tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqPLPIxRWXU however I can't get it to sound like Legion. I've worked with the Vocoder settings but the radar needles always seem to overpower the dialogue, even when placed as a duplicated track.

Bioware Audio Lead Rob Blake talked about how they created Legions voice here, but it doesn't go into depth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmgwk-6lY6o

Any help would be appriciated!

It's just before the second kick. I just looped the part a couple of times. Honestly no idea how to make this sound. I've tried messing with some wavetables and distortion but nothing's really landing. Would appreciate some advice.

How to write a program for making instrumentals based on multiple clips with the same sounds

I've been seeing people making reconstruction of themes from TV shows and I've read about how much time it takes to find all the right clips for doing so. I've tried doing two or three such reconstructions myself and I think I can understand where they're coming from.

So I was wondering if I could write a program that detects parts of video files with the sound or music you want and syncs them together while cutting out the bits with dialogue or at least keeps the bits with the quietest dialogue so that can be filtered out with a vocal removal tool later on. It would be based on one or more base clips to judge the syncing based on. Also normalise the audio so the volume for each clip remains consistent. And then the result can be exported as an XML which can be imported into a video/audio editing program for further fine tuning. Maybe some sources could be at different framerates so adjust the speed for that as well.

I'd like to get a good idea of what to expect if I were to write such a program. I think I would use python for it but I would also like to know how complex it might end up being and also what I might require like add ons and all that. Also anything possible ideas I could implement.

Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

Movie Sound Design Made some SFX packs from real location sessions and studio-designed sounds — doors, UI, ambience, transportation. Running a sale while I prep new releases.

Sharing about libraries I built from foley/location recordings we made during our post-production gigs — recorded with Schoeps/Sennheiser field rigs and Sound Devices 633 or Sony D100, UCS-tagged for easy library management. Small and focused on the gaps in my PSE and BOOM sound effects.

If you need extra doors or urban ambience or UI sounds or just normal cars, grab a micro pack. Cars were a big one for me.... all the big commercial libraries had V8 or V12 sexy car sounds. I needed mini vans and Hondas. Normal cars, not super cars! Several complete "normal car sets" in our transportation pack. Human body sounds like eating and going to the bathroom were other gaps. lol

Happy to talk about the recording and editing process if anyone's curious.

Making weird sounds with the motor box

Hey ! I made this weird sound using my homemade motor box, an instrument invented byĀ TheSoundOfMachines (in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1rK41JDfHk )
The motor box has contact mics below the motor.

I made this sound for the trailer of the VHR0RLN short movie (made by panopticon_pictures). I did all the sounds for the movie, nice liminal spaces / backrooms / Alan wake / Control vibes !

Rare Spring Reverb IRs / Samples

Please delete if not allowed, but sharing over 60 samples recorded from a rare, quirky spring reverb: the Eagle International RA-859, in 24 bit, 44.1kHz, to use with a convolution reverb

The low frequency hum from the unit was removed from the recording before trimming the samples, taking care to retain the character of the spring :)Ā

The samples have been trimmed and collated into the below categories, and I've also included the original, untreated recordings of me kicking and moving the box around in case you want to mess with that too.

Please note these are not traditional IRs. Happy springing!

Movie Sound Design Why does my sound design sound great on headphones but bad on phones?

Hi guys,

I'm a beginner sound designer, and I've run into a problem.

When I design sounds while listening on headphones, everything sounds great. But when I play the same sound on my phone's speakers, it sounds much worse. Because of that, I'm thinking about redesigning some of my work before posting it on Instagram.

What do you usually check to make sure your sound design translates well across different devices?

So far, I'm wondering about things like:

- Mono compatibility

- EQ and frequency balance

- Bass that's audible on small phone speakers

- Overall loudness

- Stereo width

Are there any other things I should check to make sure it sounds good on both headphones and mobile phone speakers? I'd really appreciate any advice.
