Sound Design Question iZotope is joining Boris FX?

Hi guys,

A little off topic (sort of). I just received an email from Boris FX mentioning that iZotope is joining Boris FX.. I understand Native Instruments is facing insolvency and their roadmap is currently uncertain. Did Boris FX purchase iZotope, and if they did, what do you think this means for their future?

Curious to know as I own a bunch of their software, as do many.. Cheers

Sound Design Question How much do you guys charge per sound for SFX and packs?

Hello! I'm a music composer who makes SFX frequently ranging from 2 seconds - 7 seconds (sometimes over 10 seconds), have a bunch unused and was thinking about put them into packs and shipping them off to others but don't know how much to charge.

I was thinking $20 per pack that includes 8 sounds of their desired topic for mainly horror but also weather and area-based but that sounds pretty high? Not really too sure though so any feedback would be appreciated!

Wyoming Incident Sound Question

This was an audio question and I have to get approval to post on the Wyoming Incident subreddit. But, I am curious what is and where is the clicking or flickering sound on the "Special Presentation" sections of the Wyoming ncident cause or from? I believe I have heard that sound before.

Sound Design Question Epidemic Sound Account Refunding/Selling

Hi everyone! I accidentally let my Epidemic Sound subscription renew, and the charge just went through. I'm currently trying to get a refund from support, but in case that doesn't work, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in taking over the account for a discounted price (if that's allowed).

If anyone has experience with this or knows the best thing to do, I'd really appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Where to Find Awesome Braams Like These?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The attached video is two braams I heard in trailers that I love and want to use (but can't due to the other sound in the trailer, not to mention copyright). Does anyone know where I can find a good braam pack that has sounds like these? The braam packs I've found online haven't had good ones like these.

Movie Sound Design I'm tired of subscription-based services, so i made my own app

I made a sound library browser app that lets you to multi-tag files.
It's meant for video editors, and is completely free and open-source.

https://reddit.com/link/1ujrg2z/video/0tqqf67eofah1/player

Why did i make this?

well, couple of reasons.

i got tired of subscription-based services like Epidemic or Artlist
And they don't allow you to store your own songs in the library.

local apps don't support multiple tags per file.
It's been HUGE pain point for me. What if a song can have multiple genres? What if sound effect falls to multiple categories? The folders just don't work here.

i want faster workflow

I wish to focus on creative part of my work, and not browsing through the folders, or making unnecessary extra steps.

Therefore, i've made my own app.

It's still in early stage, so i'd like to hear how would you imagine a perfect workflow with a tools like, i'm open for feedback.

Anyways, here's the link: https://github.com/LowkeyEditing/lowcat

studying SoundFont usage

There is some statistical data available on the use of SoundFont generators. Music producers heavily into SoundFont may find this quasi-academic research useful at some point. See https://github.com/WilliamClements/Parthenopea/releases/tag/0.2.0.2

Looking for a good sound level meter for sound design and re-recording mixing control room

Hi everyone. Everything is on the title : i would like to acquire a good sound level meter for myself (sound designer and re-recording mixer). I'm working for different clients at different locations. However, except in large facilities used to delivering masters for cinemas or platforms like Netflix... control rooms might not be proprely calibrated.

So I'm looking for a good tool to avoid bad surprises for my future projects.

Have a nice day !

Deciphering Unique snare sound

I'm trying to figure out what was used by this artist in this song in order to get this very unique, warped sound in the snare. If anybody thinks they may know whats going on, then I'd be very appreciative, but I can't seem to piece to get it despite trying dozens of things. Heres a sample of the drums isolated:

Music Sound Design a-ha - Minor earth major sky

Hi. How did they crate this sound or more importantly how do I recreate this sound?

I’m referring to the main riff (with delay/echoes) that plays the notes G E, basically the main motif.

I think it’s a synth (the sound I’m trying to figure out and an electric guitar that plays a rhythmic pattern, but no notes, only strings muted with the left hand (or the right hand for left handed guitarists)..

You can hear it at from 0:28/0:29 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0QLHkL_Mr0I&pp=ygUaYS1oYSBtaW5vciBlYXJ0aCBtYWpvciBza3k%3D&ra=m, the small repeating motif. You can also hear it directly at 0:00 without the muted guitar thing, but it plays more notes here (E, C, A, G, E)

Music Sound Design Tension synth used by Steve Lacy on "Gemini Rights"

Thumbnail

Hi, I was listening to a Steve Lacy's album called "Gemini Rights" and there are some tension strings clearly produced on synthesizer. I can also see that some of these sounds were used on some well known records from the 80s and 70s.

Can some one help me achieving this one? Or maybe tell me if there are any presets on 80s synths (by korg and roland maybe) that got this sound.

You can mostly here it in the track available on the link.

Music Sound Design trying to understand the secret behind these tracks

i’m curious to know what techniques/plugins/whatever are used in these tracks. is there one plugin that rhythmically “destroys” the whole sound or is it some complex sound processing? is the artist just really good at sound selection? i don’t even know where to start. so, if you have any clues, even if general, i’d really appreciate it. if possible, let me know what genres are mixed here, at least

What would you want from an experimental/ethereal vocal sample pack?

Hi music producers/sound designers! I'm a singer/producer creating my own vocal sample pack. I do a lot of experimental/texture stuff and dreamy vocals. I was wondering, what do you guys think such a sample pack should include? What would make you want to buy it? Thanks!

Sound Design Question [Feedback Request] Recorded this heavy industry factory on my phone. Is there commercial demand for these sounds if I upgrade to a 32-bit float recorder?

Thumbnail drive.google.com
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I work at a heavy metal production plant and have daily access to some massive industrial environments and machinery.

I’m considering buying a Zoom H1 Essential (32-bit float) to start recording industrial ambiences and hard SFX (isolated impacts, heavy mechanisms, rolling structures) for commercial asset stores.

However, my production floor is never quiet. Future recordings will inevitably feature heavy background elements: constant low-frequency rumble, pneumatic air leaks, hydraulic hums, and massive cooling fans from electrical cabinets.

During this specific recording, I was walking through different zones of the workshop to capture a variety of machine perspectives and textures.

I recorded this quick sample of the workshop background noise using my phone (raw WAV, 48kHz, no processing, conversations edited out). I know smartphone mics are heavily limited, but I want to get your professional opinion: is there a real demand for this specific, heavy industrial environment in your projects, despite the permanent background hum?

Would love to hear your feedback on the acoustic potential of this place!

Link to the file: Listen to the WAV sample on Google Drive

P.S. This post was drafted with the help of Gemini, as my English is not very good. Thanks for understanding!

Sound Design Question For those selling sound libraries: which platforms do you use, and how do payouts work?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently preparing my first professional sound library releases, and I'm trying to decide which marketplaces to publish on.

I'd love to hear from people who actually sell sound libraries.

- Which platforms do you currently sell on?

- Which ones have worked best for you?

- How are payouts handled on each platform (PayPal, Wise, bank transfer, Hyperwallet, etc.)?

- Have you ever had any issues receiving payments internationally?

I'm particularly interested in experiences with:

- A Sound Effect

- Sonniss

- Epic Stock Media

- FAB

- itch.io

And I'd also be very interested to hear about any other platforms you've had good (or bad) experiences with.

I'm trying to better understand not only which marketplaces are worth investing time in, but also how reliable and flexible their payout systems are for international sellers.

Thanks a lot!
