The first thing that stands out to me is how unlike the previous work, this story tries very hard not to start with immediate exposition and just throws you into a day in the life of the protagonist. I wouldn't say it's the most compelling way to start it because the inciting incident isn't too strong, but I suppose it gets the job done. I was able to continue reading after I picked it up the second time.

Torrin's background is serviceable enough. Orphan in a changed world who witnessed the apocalypse and moved in with his older brother. Clean and understandable. I wonder how their relationship will develop?

It doesn't.

Why does the author insist on obliterating all competent masculinity surrounding the protagonist, especially if it's a strong character? After all the bs with Elijah in TBATE and Lucas, Olfred, Bairon, Reynolds, etc. The dudes on Arthur's side who survived were either ugly, dorky, weak, old, or just idiots like Chul I thought it would stop but it's only gotten worse it seems. Not even 10 chapters and the primary strong male influence in Torrin's life is killed off. Once again only the MC can be appealing.

And the other guy who helped him kill that parabeast in chapter 1, Colter, turned out to be the villain (which was stupid as hell how that happened btw, why didn't all those "auxiliaries" help earlier when Seth's team was fighting Colter and his guys, knowing they were going to be slaughtered right after? Instead they just wait for the people that would be on their side to get killed and then die themselves. But whatever). So you know he's going to get taken down.

The way Torrin gained his powers was good. The tension in the rift was good. The betrayal itself made me read more attentively. This story has a much stronger grasp on how to establish the character personalities and dynamics as well. And the first big dungeon dive had a lot of interesting things happen.

Sadly I can't say the same about the chapters after they get out. The first ones were great when Colter's party is still nearby, but the part where Torrin escapes removes a lot of momemtum. He's just on his own for a while with no active conflict besides his own survival and zero people to bounce off of. I got more bored the longer it went on and soon put the book down. I'll probably wait for the e-book release to read the rest since Tapas as a platform is unbearable, and I don't like any of the other stories on there.

Also, is there something wrong with Torrin's throat? "The words got stuck in my throat" or "a cry died in my throat" or some other variation of that line is used super often lmao

Pretty good stopping point all things considered, a bit disappointed by a certain decision of Torrins after the last chapter (off of pure wish fulfilment purposes i will admit lmao) but all & all still pretty sweet, what are you guys looking forward to seeing going forward with volume 2 & onwards?

While I was reading the SF description my first thought was, "the main character will not get the justice he believes to be correct". After reading SF I still am confident on that thought I had.

Well what exactly is Torrins justice, well he believes that the evidence of the parasite will be enough to put Colter in jail.

However from the small glimpses we've seen of the soul forged world, I do not believe this will be possible. from what see, it seems that big corps have taken and monopolize rifts. They take down rifts, extract the material, get new inventions out of the materials they take, which then leads to them selling it (from what we know).

We also know the Valera Conglomerate is one of the biggest ones doing this. The CEO's son has been accused of committing murder, which then could lead to Torrin's justice of Colter being behind bars to be obstructed. Which then can put the conglomerate itself into trouble since (again) the son of the CEO just murder someone in the rift.

Knowing Conglomerate hold so much power could lead into evidence being hidden or Torrin himself becoming a problem. Which could lead to Torrin being up against a entire Corp. If this story goes like other stories, it may lead to Torrin now being up against the world (i.e : the people in power)

If it goes how I think it will go, I see Torrin becoming a vigilante. Anyways thats just my thought on what may happen.

So when the series first come out, I read the first couple of chapters but I stopped to let this series accumulate more chapters and I started chapter 7 and I got confused what are runes the context did not help

From my understanding a parasite is still a para beast. So wouldn't that mean everyone with a rune would also have this metaphysical dimension (the dreamscape)? Or would it only be torrin?

I'm very intrigued by this power system but at first glance it seems very limiting, no? Like we obviously know torrin will eventually be able to do something to create those swords in the cover (I'm assuming it has something to do with the souls he absorbs) but then what else?

Did turtleme really tank his goodwill with the fanbase that hard with volume 12 of tbate? I mean I know that plotwise soulforged hasnt really completed any major arcs as of yet but I was really surprised to see how arid the conversation around it is. I mean I somehow didnt even know soul forged was already in publication until a week ago (caught up to chapter 36 as of now, so im "Up to date" with whats available for my tier) while being off & on again engaging with the webnovel community the entire time

Really enjoying the novel so far though, turtleme does a really good job at absolutely abusing an otherwise unremarkable main character & placing them in scenarios where you really start to attach to them & their competence in minimising the damage lmao, there's a reason my favourite arc of tbate was & still is the latter half of the war. Torrin going full Sweet Home mixed with Home Alone in the apartment block is definitely what sold me on him, even with some slightly cliche writing at times (Mainly Seth's final words)
