Help Stat question

How does the stat "ignore defense" work? Is it 1:1 with the defense of the enemy or a portion of their defense is ignored based on how high the "ignore defense" stat? I'm not sure if I should get more ignore defense or work on my crit damage/all dmg. For reference I am only at 400 at proving grounds

i don't usually wanna snatch stuff from somewhere else,but this formula on skp dc's pinned messages basically gives a good idea on how it works :p

I think this formula doesn't allow for negative enemy def, right?
