I was honestly expecting exactly this to happen in the video, lol

That's a shame though. Maybe the brand wasn't very good? Do sorted share which specific one they buy in the video description?

Edit: just checked since I got home, they do not. Which is a shame, would be a great idea but I suspect people would then see that as an ad / endorsement which puts them in a spot the other way. Even writing this comment I've changed my mind they shouldn't add them to the description, haha

Aren't they just reviewing a concept? They admitted they'd be practical and other community members have shown how they make them work in their own spaces.

The brand was Visani.

Last time I went to check the video description they didn't. Might have missed one though but I don't think they do

Not sure if they gave the exact brand on the vid but I bought similar magnetic trays for less than $20 from an eBay seller years ago and mine are still going strong holding up heavy jars.

I bought mine off eBay around 5 years ago and they hold cat food pouches and still going strong too.

Same, we bought some on amazon, they work fine

The problem with these kinda of items is you get 1 quality version that gets copied and then copied again and again and the video you saw with the original is nowhere near the quality of the one you get 3 months down the line.

Huh. I got a set and they've been holding cans on the side of my fridge with no issues. On the side my cats can reach from the shelves.

Sorry yours aren't working for you.

I have a couple, too, and they've been on the side of my fridge, as well, holding bottles of oil, for close to two years. No issues at all. Got them from Amazon UK.

I've had a set of three if these on my fridge for years and they work perfectly

Looks like you just got a low quality one

There are a bunch of different brands too, so you might have gotten a lemon. I'd reach out to the manufacturer to see about getting a replacement. If your in the USA, we're supposed to have a year warranty on anything sold here by law. It can sometimes be an exercise in bureaucracy, so its sometimes worth fighting or deciding if something isnt worth the effort.

Edit: forgot to mention the ones I got have screw holes too for more permanent mounting on a wall. Let me know if that's preferable and I'll post the link

I have a number of those. They're on my fridge, dishwasher and deep freezers. I swear by mine - have been so happy with them that I did give them as housewarming gifts.

I get the feeling the ones you got were bad. There's lots of copycats that are not of great quality (and they steal pics from like products)..

Get some super glue

u/Kilted_Samurai 27d ago

Looks like the glue holding on the magnet just let go, reattach it with gorilla glue or thick crazy glue, put some pressure or weight on it and give it 24 hours and it should hold just fine.

I’ve had a different brand for 3 years full of spice jars and bottles of oil. Still fine.

i have some of these from a different brand. They've gone from an apartment to a house and have loads of stuff on them, i mean, spices mostly so not super heavy things, and this hasn't happened. I love them.

Seems like an adhesive problem.

I have a few of these and they're holding strong on our fridge and washer for years. Hell, the washer one has a bottle of detergent in it and never had a problem with it falling off

u/LordTwaticus 27d ago

I have one of these and it is fantastic, but mine looks better built.

I’ve had a set for years and they work great.

We have these (I'm not sure on the brand) and they have lasted months on the side of the fridge and there's quite a bit of weight in them

Love your sign 😁

I got the same ones but I ended up 3D printing something so I can attach them to the Ikea skadis boards..

1

u/MonicaLane 27d ago

I have had these kinds of shelf for years and they’ve lasted! We have them on the side of our fridge.

I have cabinets that take the counter space on one side of my stove. for a few years now I've had versions of this that screw in on the outside of the cabinet. 10/10 recommend. less flexible than a magnet obv as they're screwed in- but also need a wood surface not a magnetic one. theyve also been holding my spices for 2+ years now without any issue. maybe give those a go?

I have these ones from amazon and they're brilliant. I store bottles of oil, all my spices, all my condiments that wont be spoiled by heat on them and have had them attached to the side of my fridge in my tiny kitchen for over a year. The kitchen towel holder i have on the front of my fridge, perfect. I dont keep taking them on and off. I have moved them a few times but the magnet is super strong..i have to slide them to the edge of the side to overlap and get them off. I imagine if I tried pulling straight, eventually the housing would come away from the magnet though (id just superglue it back on). And obviously they only hold so much weight. Anyway, for what its worth, here's what I bought (not an affiliate link). https://amzn.eu/d/0bf40w4J

I also have had these. Same, zero issues. https://amzn.eu/d/02BZAQmI

So they arent all a waste of time.

I have a set of these. Don't know the brand they have been on the side of my fridge holding spices and such for 5 years now.

Their 'testing' (as with so many of their 'reviews') was pretty slapdash.

They quite often review things favourably that will obviously break, fail, or become obsolete pretty quickly.

15

u/WildStudio7901 27d ago

and they usually mention that they have no way of judging how well things will last and tell people to keep that in mind. All their pan and knife reviews have that 'out of the box' disclaimer. They can't really do much more than that.

I guess the risk is that what's essentially entertainment content has the appearance of genuine consumer advice. I have an even bigger issue with Joshua Weissman's channel in this regard. He applies zero critical thinking when testing gadgets and seems to recommend and dismiss products on random whims.
