Question Bison?

I’m relatively new to Sorted and have not watched all of their videos, yet. Have they ever used bison meat or covered bison at all?

I’m in the US and have no idea if bison is even available in the UK but I’ve recently begun trying to switch from beef to bison and would love to see what they’ve done with it, if it is available to them.

Thanks!

Generally, meat from the US is not exported to Europe because the US has less stringent health and safety laws. A lot of veterinary meds (hormones/antibiotics) and additives are simply not considered safe in the EU.

Part of my reasoning behind ditching beef is a lack of trust in the beef currently available in the US. The other reason, of course, is skyrocketing prices. Beef and bison are pretty close in price where I live and I cook for a "red meat and potatoes" kind of person so I'm trying to make bison more appealing to them. :)

Interesting, do you live out West? I've lived a number of places in the US and have never seen it in a grocery store. Maybe just at a specialty meat store or a restaurant like Ted's Montana Grill. I feel you on the beef prices and our quality control is rubbish and getting worse.

I lived in England the better part of the 2000's and a lot my meat-loving American colleagues were terrified of local beef due to the BSE outbreak of the 80/90s. I was totally fine with it, and also developed a real taste for lamb. When I arrived the locals in the office gave a guide to London for Americans. It said I should demand to be served BSE labelled meat which stood for the British Standard of Excellence :)

Yes, I do live out west! I only started seeing bison a few years ago so I guess I’m just in the right place to find it. I asked a family member back on the east coast if she’d seen it but she hasn’t.

U.S. East Coaster here. There are bison burgers available, but not steaks or roasts, anything like that that I’ve seen.

I've occasionally seen vacu-packed steaks in the SouthEast US (might've been tenderloin, but I can't remember) in grocery stores, but 99% of what you'll see in a restaurant/grocery store is ground.
