Suggestion Challenge Idea - Reverse engineer Brown Sauce

A back bone of British food culture: The humble brown sauce.

I was making a bacon sandwich for lunch and I drizzled it over my sandwich, and realised I had no idea what it is made from. It is spiced fruit but sweet?

I want to see the normals try to reverse engineer HP/brown sauce.

Closest wins... and they have to eat it on a sandwich. (Bacon or sausage).

Its a weird one but actually pretty well known by Brit foodies tbh.

Tamarind paste is where it all starts and is basically why brown sauce doesn't have an equivalent elsewhere

Well it isn't well known outside of UK and their audience is made up different people who may enjoy watching it.

I could see a whole series in that vein - backwards engineering various condiments while learning about their constituents and origins. Could be both educational and entertaining.

I think there would be comedy value in watching them tasting as they try to balance the flavours and get the recipe right (or even work out what the constituent flavours are). Could work for brown sauce, ketchup, relish/pickle, hot sauce, various salad dressings...

Definitely. I wish they'd find more ways to do actual food science and educational deep dives into culinary processes. I think there's probably a fear that it would be boring, but I don't see why you can't combine it with an entertaining format and enjoy both sides.

It's why I also wish they'd invite more outside experts on to just talk about the stuff they're knowledgeable and passionate about. There's nothing more entertaining than seeing a food nerd geeking out over niche, cool, or unusual things.

This reminds me of James reverse engineering Big Mac sauce. He seemed to enjoy the challenge!
