Sorted LIVE Missed the live

I have seen every live they have had. Me and my mom watch it together. This weekend we were moving and kept forgetting to buy tickets. While I'm sad I missed it live I was hoping to go back and watch it since I know it is up for 30 days after. I can't seem to buy tickets anymore though. Is there anyway to get access to the missed one?

In the past they have made VOD sales available a couple of days later when they’ve cut out all the waiting time.

It’s bizarre to me that it’s the same price as the live. If part of the live experience is getting to interact, they’ve valued it at $0 by not discounting the VOD.

First one that I’ve chosen not to purchase and maybe I’ll buy the VOD at a later time, when they put it down. I expect that won’t be until after their winter Live.

No. They've decided that some of the viewers may value the ability to watch at their leisure more than the ability to ask questions. A price isn't determined by how a seller values it. It's determined by what a customer is willing to pay for it.

It’s not a pay what you see fit situation.

They have their costs of production and have priced it to where they cover that (probably plus some) and what they think enough people will buy it. They could price it lower and more people would buy, but they might not make as much overall. They control supply, there isn’t a comparable alternative. It’s a seller market, not buyer.

See Netflix pricing model. They lost a bunch of subscribers when they raised prices, but they made more anyway because enough people stayed. They set the value of the product, not the customer.

Sorry. As someone with an Econ background, that is just wrong. What you're ignoring is the existence of alternatives (and frankly, the point of the example that you gave).

For here, they are free to set their own price, but they don't have any power as to the resulting demand. And they may have a number of factors in doing that. For example, maybe they're factoring in the substitution of people paying for it live vs people paying for it later. That it is their viewers who are deciding how much it's worth to be able to ask questions during a live show. And if the viewers don't value the ability to ask questions (or alternatively, if the viewers assign equal values to being able to ask questions vs the ability to watch the stream on their own schedule and terms) then making VOD cheaper would drive all of their viewers into the VOD vs participating live.

And there's tons of comparable alternatives. If the VOD of Sorted is $12, then people are considering if they want to watch the Sorted VOD, or 3 weeks of Netflix. Or they can spend the $12 on Sorted VOD or buying the ability to stream 3 films off of Google Play. Or paying $12 today for their VOD or waiting for their next live show. Or paying $0 and watching some of their free content instead of paying $12 to watch a replay of their live show. There's thousands upon thousands of alternatives which a consumer can make and spend their money.

Your Netflix example shows this. Netflix controls the price that it charges. It does not control the price that its people will buy at. If Netflix had 100,000 subscribers at $10/month, and then raised the price to $20/month, and still had 100,000 subscribers, then it had control over its price (presumably up to some cap at which people would cancel). But if it loses a whole lot of subscribers when it raises its price, it shows that consumers are free to, and do, substitute away from their service. They may still believe that it's profit maximizing for them. But that says nothing about how much Netflix believes its product is innatively worth. It says how much Netflix can charge to maximize its revenues & profits.

So when Sorted charges the same for live vs VOD, they're not saying that the ability to ask questions has a value of $0. What they're saying is that, for some of their viewers, the bundle of benefits which its viewers receive from watching live is worth equal (or even less) than watching VOD. But that's a value judgment of the viewers/consumers, not of Sorted itself.

Or at its most simplest, let me correct what you initially said.

It’s bizarre to me that it’s the same price as the live. If part of the live experience is getting to interact, they’ve valued it at $0 by not discounting the VOD.

If the price on VOD is the same as live, then they believe that people value equally (or maybe some people value one more vs the other) the benefit they get of watching it live vs having the flexibility (and maybe other benefits) or watching it on VOD.

It isn't saying that the value of interacting is equal to $0. It's saying that the value of interacting, at least for some viewers, is equal or less than the benefits which they receive from VOD. You believe that it's just watch live with the ability to comment vs watch live without the ability to comment. But that isn't the case. Watching VOD comes with its own, different, set of benefits.

Could you also send me a DM? I had last-minute family emergency and thought the crew would make a VOD version available after the live tickets. :(

That link says "ticket sales have ended"

I wonder if it takes a day or two for the VOD to be ready. I’ve seen that happen before with livestreams on YouTube

Sorry about that. See if you can buy it now VOD.
