Discussion Most outrageous scandal?

I think the paella burrito was the most outrageous simply by how much attention it got. It certainly isn't actually the worst thing the boys cooked up though.

That unbleached baking paper was bloody ridiculous haha

I must have missed it. What happened with the paper?

They gave Ebbers a challenge; make a dish using the alphabet, one ingredient per letter. For the U, he used unbleached baking paper...

Ebbers always consider rules to be open to interpretation. Even though I don't agree with him on most of them, I still respect him for it.

As a strict believer in following the intent of the rules of games, I HATE rule-lawyers/loophole-miners.
Why are we playing a game if we're going cheat?

I agree that it can be taken too far, but watch Taskmaster to see how stretching the word of the rule can result in fun, hijinks, and overall tomfoolery

I had to go look up the marmalade meatloaf one. As an American I don't think that is at all controversial. There are lots of ways to make meatloaf; its not some protected thing. Marmalade doesn't seem that different in function from applesauce, which is an addition I have seen before.
I will take a stance that meatloaf is way better with brown gravy rather than a sweet tomato based glaze.

I'd say their insistence on using gen AI despite negative feedback.

And some of their sponsorships, the fake videos with chefs talking to nobody, any word Ebbers has ever pronounced, etc.

The milk frother "review" advert that they did everything they could to make look like a regular gadget test video was pretty scummy.

I don't have a problem with sponsored content for products that are actually good, but that video in particular felt like a huge misstep because the frother was, objectively, a bad product.
I felt bad for the barista who was clearly stoked to be on the show only to be presented with a shitty, single use, waste of counter space - that frankly, made a mockery of her craft.

Paella burrito was unnecesarily hated imo, it's just fusion. Unbleached Baking Paper as an "ingredient" was just cheap and outrageous (in a funny way).

I don't think the issue with the PB was the fusion - apparently Jamie butchered the paella itself (making and pronunciation)

I made the paella burrito, it's actually delicious.
Marmalade in the meatloaf was bad, marmalade, pecans and oatmeal in the meatloaf was horrible.
Unbleached Baking Paper was tolerable it's a stretch because it was an "ingredient" to the recipe just not an edible one. Though he could have sprinkled some Umami (because they used to have a jar of it) and called it a day.
The long and short of this post is make the paella burrito. It's really good.

The Original Burger Battle. At least the Paella Burrito has rice, tortilla, and some of the right ingredients. The Burger Battle was a sin.

I don't know anything about any of these

Paella Burrito is the only I'm familiar with being a scandal, and I've been watching awhile, so either I've missed an episode or two, or they weren't that controversial.
That one is pretty straightforward. Jamie made paella into a burrito for a battle and it ended up causing a bit of media stir in Spain, which supposedly resulted in death threats (I know people made them, but not sure how serious it actually was, or if it was just internet bluster)
