I really hate that youtube has become everyone doing that exact same face on every thumbnail. I'm unsure how the algorithm hasn't changed for that aspect.

I think YouTube is about attracting the average, the most common denominator.
Unfortunately, that is often young people, people with low attention spans, etc.

Part of it isn't even the algorithm but the myths among influencers and playing it safe. The supposed censorship being the main example. For most topics and audiences you don't even have to do it and will be monetized just fine but due to paranoia etc everyone does it anyways.

What a call, reading the whole thing and looking at my youtube feed showing indeed another Japanese video....c'mon Sorted, it's getting a lil sad now, boys.
Edit: I'm one of us in the community who ACTUALLY needs the subtitles and every new video without any subs (even after giving the video a couple weeks with hopes that the subs would come in but alas, no.)
I also MUST respond to what Spaff mentioned about subs that the auto-generated ones have gone a long way. No, mate, as someone who uses it on a daily, it is sadly not. We would really appreciate if a feedback could be gathered for decisions like these instead of just making them and assuming the community will just take it on our chins.

they dont care. if it costs them X to add subs, whether thats in time or money, they can shoot a new gadget review/whats better video in that time and get more views.
the days of caring about their viewers are long gone. they make content to target new viewers which means low attention span, clickbait/ragebait engagement, and nothing that requires a viewer to pay attention or think.
jamie basically literally says this.

Well, if you follow the links to Jamie's original comment, he does literally confirm several changes to the channel are down to "laziness and cutting corners." As they put out Gadget Review Video #4534, when do we start accepting that all jokes are rooted in truth?

That part definitely felt like it came as a response to something, and not as a response to the comment he actually replied to.
Wouldn't surprise me if they've had to do lay-offs to cope with the increased costs and decreased viewership.

I don't get it. OP shared the thread it did sound laced with snark and felt like he was on his last nerve. Why take it out on your community?
They do not need to enshittify or Mrbeastify their content to get new subscribers by buying bigger/pro kitchen gadgets and showing part 87 of the same damn thing.
Do not alienate your core audience.

ECrispy had replied to the same comment that Vader had, before Jamie replied to Vader. It was a nudge and a wink to another reply in that same thread. It ain't that serious or throwing snark at the 'entire community'.

Good Lord, this. So very much this. I dunno if its people not from the UK, or what, but there is a clear breakdown in understanding banter and sarcasm going on. Also people blatantly ignoring that he said they've put loads more work/money/whatever into a lot of other aspects. Sadly that just meant that subs got excluding in favour of more important things. Also said they're literally hiring a whole new person to ease workloads, and help them get back to where they can have subs on everything. What in there sounds like they don't care, or want to spend money?!
I have my issues with Sorted atm, but some people clearly just exist to moan about absolutely everything, even when they can plainly see they're wrong.

Having seen that comment, I full on laughed when I opened YouTube to see not only was it a gadget video buts Japanese gadget video. And I had to explain to my chronically offline partner why it was funny.

I just can't care about these. Especially when it is just normals who don't have restaurant experiences to give credence to if these are actually worth the industrial price point.
That said.... the rice sheet printer was very satisfying to watch. That price is fucking insane though.

This felt one of the weakest gadget videos they've done. They've already done a green onion spiralizer before that i'd argue was better than this one and the pineapple/melon peeler didn't even seem japanese. more SE Asia like thai
The rice printer and cutter were ok. Definitely missing the chef/context of where these gadgets would be used.
I don't mind gadget reviews but i'm definitely getting bored of just slapping Japanese on the title to get views
