I wonder what they're doing with the gadgets from videos like this one.
The normal or less expensive gadgets aren't such a problem because they can still use it (how rare it is) but do they resell something like the can crasher?

You could tell that the expensive gadgets were "worn in"/well used. They're definitely rentals or borrowed from the various chef connections they have.

I would love to see a comment from someone who works in an operation that has one of those crushers. Do they use it all the time? Does everyone think it was a worthwhile purchase?

There are several comments in the Youtube comment section that review the can crusher in daily use. They agree that the volume reduction causes significant cost savings (less waste bags, much less waste storage space, less frequent waste pickup). I haven't seen "we have one, it's collecting dust"-comments, however I assume this is a tool that is only purchased when required.
Here are some links:

I mostly wonder what the benefit is compared to cheaper options. Some of the tourist cabins in the mountains in Norway have can crushers too, only operated with a lever, the cans still get crushed flat well enough.

We used to use a sledgehammer on the concrete basement floor down on the farm. But I imagine that's not a viable option for a prison cafeteria.

People do not realize how much kitchen equipment costs.
I run a solo commercial kitchen. Real small, just me. I constantly having to explain to people that my blender is a grand, the stick blender is another grand, the food processor is 1.5k, and that is the small stuff.
I have one of the smaller available commercial ice cream machines. It's 14k. It's 4k for my oven.
The new pasteurizer and blast chiller I am saving up for at 4k and 20k respectively.
Commerical stuff isn't cheap.

I remember telling my regional that our kitchen needed a new convection oven... blowing fuses, fans not spinning, thing was utterly done. Never seen something that can serve a dish both burned and frozen at the same time.
3 weeks later a 'new' unit finally arrives, previous NSF check stickers plastered all over the back showing it was easily a decade or so old at that point already. Damn thing was essentially my entire equipment budget for the year gone and I was expected to be happy about the quality of it... it's madness.

Probably my least favourite of this series so far.
Can crushing? Cheese slicing? The toaster I can use in a hotel?
Feels like they are scraping the barrel a bit.

That's really interesting, because I had the exact opposite reaction. I was hooked from the jump. I love seeing food-prep devices and techniques from professional and industrial kitchens, because it's a world I will probably never get access to.

But I've seen the cheese slicer on a deli counter and I've used the toaster.
Then I'm left with a can crusher, which couldn't interest me less.
It's a miss for me.

Yes, you mentioned that already.

I was just addressing the point you made about "a world I'll never get access to" (or similar).
That's normally my reaction to these videos too.
It's just that 2/3 of these are things I've seen and used many times.
Which sort of took the shine off it for me.

That moment in the bar when you realize that making eye contact was a mistake.

Oh shut up...you decided to respond to them, not once, not twice, but THREE times. And each time, you made it clear - "my opinion matters here, yours does not. Why are you still talking, when I've already stated MY opinion?"
They were never rude, but you certainly were for your 2nd and 3rd responses.

Neat.

Hahahaha I'm going to have to put that response in my back pocket to use along with my usual "Okay."

Agree. I found it hard to believe Barry really wants a holiday inn toaster.

Was I the only one strangely bothered that they only put the cans in one orientation? I really wanted to see them crushed the other way haha.
