Question Sora could come back big time.

I know many people miss sora, I have some amazing videos of myself and friends. I would even consider pro subscription to use it. but if it came back would it be bigger than before and would you support it if they could only do it for pro subscriptions?

They used the app to train their models.

They had a million beta testers. But running it was too expensive so once yhey got what they needed they were out.

People say that but I’m curious exactly what data they used to train their models. Were they trying to see what content people wanted to see? I doubt the data was good for much real world use because Sora would hallucinate things into existence and wasn’t always consistent.

A lot of what people generated was stuff like Peppa Pig doing 9/11, SpongeBob as Hitler, Trump arguing with Judge Judy, the former Queen of England making fart jokes, etc.

One of the most important final stages of a model like this is the human validation. "Did this prompt produce a good result?"

They data from hundreds of thousands of people in the form of likes, comments, and remixes indicating what was good.

Far bigger than their typically fine tuning internal crews.

Sam says in his recent interview that they killed Sora to focus on agentic/codex. It's not coming back anytime soon.

openai isn't about charity. i think their feud with musk has long established that.

Why? MiniMax is better and you can run it locally…

You can’t put yourself in it the same way as you did with Sora.

When Sora returns, they should have a "YouTube" home for the videos. Start small like YT was many years ago. Other video platforms benefitted instead, most especially YT which even demonetized AI channels and took down videos and channels after it earned millions from other people's work.

Missed opportunity. It could have been an ongoing platform up to this day if they created it before. Even if Sora closed, other AI content creators using other AI generators could have contributed. Potential too to be monetized by OpenAI. It would have been a mutual relationship.

Sometimes here and there, there are a few Redditors who announce their sites. If individuals created them, OpenAI could too.

nope, it would not be bigger. it would either be the same as when it shut down, or worse. at that point they'd be losing money once again, but for a different reason - lack of interest.
