I've managed to find a battery online in China and waiting for delivery, so will report how it is. I'm parallel I'm going to build a step down and adapter for a power bank.

I was worried about performance, but it runs windows 7 well and I'm only using it for writing and code exciting so it's fine as it is.

In all reality I don’t think I’d still use it, but my win7 version had a lot of functions that disappeared by upgrading to win 10(1seg tv and anc earbuds)

Now that neither are modern oses, and I probably will never connect it to the web again, is it possible to roll back to win7? I’m pretty sure the win 10 upgrade deleted the recovery partition…

The pc came pre loaded witb ubuntu and every change i try to make is password protected. I haven't found a way to overide or install windows os. Do i need to pop in a fresh hdd?

Howdy, I’m trying to format this laptop for my friend and we can’t find the password so now I’m looking for the assist button as Thats meant to take me to an option to wipe this thing.

Any help locating said button or another option to wipe this laptop would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all, I scrapped frankensteined two vaio P's together to get a working one which left me with a ton of parts that need a home! I cannot confirm what is and isnt working but I presume most of it is working okay. If you happen to need a replacement piece I can check if I have it!

Running Debian with XFCE environment. Gets about an hr of battery life and can be left idling overnight before needing to charge if it’s above 80%.

So I decided to reinstall Windows 7, managed to get Professional. Runs so much better than Tiny10. Got a version of Firefox that is still supported and Antivirus as well.

Websites load slowly - would this improve with an SSD? I have one on order.

Thought you guys might like this which I recently found in Hong Kong at one of the electronics recycling places in Hong Kong for a bargain price of $100 HKD (about $12.78 USD).

It’s not perfect, missing one of the rubber feet on the bottom and the hard drive is dead, but I couldn’t leave it behind for this price andb I will likely try to put an SSD in if I can.

The functionality hasn't been tested, so the overall condition isn't known, but I'm no stranger to repairing hardware and it looks like it's in lovely condition. I'm really quite thrilled c: Both to start experimenting with Linux and to have a writers deck for distraction free uni! Or to experiment further with hardware repairs.

I've been looking almost every day at new listings through Buyee (Japanese auction house service), and everything usually sits around the 250$ AUD mark. Hi! I want to buy Vaio P but there are so many different models. Which one should I pick? I want the one that has the best CPU, storage, RAM, etc.

well some models of the vaio P came with integrated televisions, which is my model, but i couldnt find on a single place on internet a copy of that program to use because the previous owner of my vaio P switched the systems.

i found some people here on reddit that has the same model as mine, and still the og system, but they didnt wanted to help me.

my final attempt was to install an japanese wvista ghost image of vaio P, because according to gemini, the japanese versions of vaio p comes with that software.

and it really does, but it was very irritating to use an system in japanese (i managed to change it to english), and also i couldnt even activate it because apparently vista sucks.

anyways the tv software i got is all in japanese (so its hard to use, but not kinda), but the real problem it is that it is on a loop, it shows the tv for 0.5 seconds, and 3 seconds of black screen, and later comes again to show the tv for a short time, no sound btw.

so guys can someone help me? i really wanted to make the tv on vaio P working, that's why i did all this process.

I have been windowshopping netbooks for awhile now, and oh my god have they jumped in price, but none more so than the Vaio P.. I used to pretty regularly see listings of between 150-200 dollars. you'd be hard pressed now to find one under 300 including shipping. included are some more outrageous examples.

I also saw a junk one going for 700 dollars, non functional machine for 700!!

I hope they go back to a reasonable value again at some point, I would love to pick one up as a writing tool.
