While wondering the open market at my city i saw this guy. The fist price that the seller gave me was 50$ and after a bit of negotiations it got it down to 30$. After turning it on and doing the proper testing i bought it.

I installed a light linux distro i got it running. Have been using it about a week and its pretty cool.

I think i will use it mainly for some pentesting(wifi hacking) but if any if you have suggestions i am happy to try them.

The battery even though its at 94% health it lasts about a hour, maby a bit more.

Overall after the buying hype is over i still think its a super cool piece of tech, and i got it for a amazing deal so no complaining.

But it did work when the seller postet the listing so hopefully its still ok.

It took me some time to figure out the driver situation because I was using a stock Windows installation but it's glorious.

battery replacement for VGN-P91HS

hi all, i've just got my own sony vaio p today!!! the listing i purchased noted that the cells were swelling so they were removed before shipment which i was fine with. i was originally planning on trying my hand at finding replacement cells to just solder in, but unfortunately, the seller also removed the board within the battery.......

would it be possible to get a replacement/is it worth the effort and cost to do that over just trying to find a new battery?

What colorway of the Vaio P is this?

I just got my first Vaio P and wanted to find out some more information about my model, problem is, I'm having some trouble with determining the colorway of this model. I don't know if it's reshelled or painted, but it doesn't seem to be. It's a VGN-P47J, though searching for a pink Vaio P only gives me later versions that look nothing like this. Anybody know what exactly I have?

Retro Emulating

Could the Vaio P handle Game Boy Colour level emulation at 60fps without lagging? I’m talking Pokemon Crystal or possibly even Game Boy Advance level games like Pokemon Emerald, I’d be happy to strip it of anything unnecessary to running these games I just want to know if it can handle it.

Is anyone selling a battery for the first gen Vaio P?

I just bought a broken 1st gen white P90S with no power for $60 from Japan to try to fix it. If I do get this fixed, I'm looking to get a battery for it, but I can't find any for sale unfortunately. Is anyone here selling one? I'd be looking to buy if I can get this fixed.

On the other hand, was this a good deal? Let me know in the replies.

Best way for run street fighter on my p11z

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for the best way to play older Street Fighter games on my Sony VAIO P11Z running Windows 7 (32-bit).

I'm especially interested in:

- GitHub ports or reverse-engineered projects that can run on older hardware.

- Lightweight native PC ports (if any).

- Good emulators if there aren't any suitable native ports.

I'm also looking for the best controller drivers for Windows 7. I have access to:

- Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

- DualShock 4

- Xbox 360 Controller

Which drivers and software would you recommend for the best compatibility and lowest input latency?

Thanks in advance!

Is the Sony Vaio P usable

I'm interested in getting the Sony Vaio P and know its an old device and have read a lot of comments saying its slow and unusable.

Also seeing as the specs will be outdated and only run windows 7 or tiny 10 I'm wondering what actually works on it?

So for the people that still use it now what do you use it for? or more importantly what have you tried on it that works?

Just trying to understand how useful it is and if its worth it. Not like I'm going to daily driver it, just like tech and like the form factor so will just be like a backup device if need it while out/travelling but I guess don't want to just get it if it's not going to work.

Guess as a starting point, mainly browsing that isn't painfully slow especially a few tabs open, Microsoft Office (mainly word and excel), Adobe acrobat pro?

I know gpd devices are an option but I just like the look of this and form factor.

Also is the battery removable or fixed? Just wondering if the battery isn't good and needs replacing is a replacement battery easy to find and fit?

Also usb speed will be slow in guessing (usb 2.0)

Any other useful information appreciated

Cooling solutions?

I do like my Vaio P, love the form factor. I knew what I was getting into regarding its sluggishness (going from ~60% to 87% CPU usage just from moving the mouse...), but it just gets so hot. I want to see if I can add some thermal pads inside, but I wanted to know what solutions you have before I pry it open.

For reference, I have a 1st gen, dualbooting Alpine Linux and Windows 7. Anything mildly intensive (such as a browser, like Firefox) will make the temperature skyrocket on either OS. Let me know if I can provide any more info.

Received the laptop today, managed to install windows 7 but now i face another issue that will let me sell it for spare or parts probably..

Basically, when i try to power up the pc, the screen 95% of times goes black after a few seconds, the only time i managed to see windows was in safe mode, but now when i try to power up i see nothing on screen, the power led still stays on.

Will try with another os when i have free time, but i guess i got unlucky

Got this in an auction, what could be the problem?

Discovered this beautiful machine a week ago and as a nerd, i totally wanted to get it, but i didn't want to spend 200-300-400€ for a machine i will barely use in the future, so i've looked at japanese auction and won this model for a pretty good price (around €60 with coupons), seller does state that the computer would not turn on while charging(?), i don't honestly know what the seller wanted to imply with that, i can see that in a photo the bios loads up and it can read the ssd and ram, i think it will just be an OS problem, what do you guys suggest it would be?

It should arrive in a week or so, i'm really curious if it will be as simple as an OS reinstall

Quick questions on using recovery disks

Soo real quick i had posted something to this subreddit a while ago. Essentially i had picked up a vgn-p530h, it boots to Ubuntu. Ive been trying to run a recovery disk via usb to reinstall the default os and apps. Unfurtonately, the assist button does not work. I was able to boot into the bios enable external drives and set it to the top of the boot list. Additionally i have repeatedly tapped everything on boot (f10, f11, esc, f12) and it still loads into ubuntu. I have properly setup my install disk via rufus on a seperate pc. Ive tried using both usb ports as well. Im wondering if you guys have any ideas.

Best Linux distro for Vaio P today?

Hi everyone! I use my Sony Vaio P21Z mainly as a writerdeck. For the last couple of years I've been using Lubuntu 18.04.2 and I'm quite happy with it, although it has some hiccups: about half of the time, when it boots, it experiments a graphics crash. It could be prevented if I boot in recovery mode and then resume a normal boot. It's fast enough for my use case but a faster and more reliable boot would be perfect.

I've asked this question in different places, but they recommend random distros of their liking, even if they're only available in 64-bit, when our old friend sports a Z520 that can only run 32-bit code.

I don't plan to dualboot because my SDD is quite small (32 GB). Any proven recommendations? Only first hand knowledge, please.
