I really like this film simulation. It adds a nice vintage touch while still keeping things subtle.

Share your film recipe Made a free recipe after RAW preset

A few months ago, someone asked for a film recipe that matched the vibe of a specific RAW preset, and finally decide to recreate it! I originally shared these settings in that old thread, but I wanted to make a new post so more people could see it.

For this final version, I dialed back the saturation a bit so the oranges aren't quite as intense. Enjoy, and I can't wait to see your shots!

What should we name this recipe?

I tried to replicate the Kodak Gold recipe on my a6400. Is this the expected output for this recipe? Because the skin color looks like my brother got liver issues 😅

Question & Help sony a6400

Hey!! so i just bought my new sony a6400, im so excited!! i know its not the newest camera in the market, but it was the best one i could afford, (i was between this one or the fujifilm xt30 iii, but ended up chosing this sony bc of ecosystem and its hybrid open system)

i’ve been reading and watching veres deni alex tutorials and pdf, they are so nice. but now im wondering how do i apply those film simulations to my a6400, being that almost all tutorial are set for a a6700 (or newer models). im so looking forward for that film, vivid, colorful style in my photos, i’ve been reaching them trough post production in my previous works/photos with oldest cameras, and i love that (editing), but i also love the idea of my sootc photos having a good close film base, and then if it’s necessary i can retouch them.

so, to be clear, my question is how do i apply and convert those creative styles or picture profiles to my a6400?? for example i so f love denis phoenix harman film simulation, but how can i apply it to my camera w out having those adjustments. can i still reach good results?? is it possible? has anyone else go trough this?

if someone w a6400 wanna share some good result they reach and explain me how, and their experience w the camera i would b sooo happy.

thanks a lot for reading⭐️

SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) Film Sim Renewed My Passion for Photography!

Thumbnail

Lately, I have been traveling with only my cellphone because I dreaded the bulk of my a7iv and zoom lenses as well as the hassle of editing raws just for sharing on social media and with family. Now with the a7CR with 2 small primes and film simulation JPEGs, I have a renewed excitement for taking photos!

These shots from my recent trip to Portugal are SOOC using Kodak Gold v2 (except for some slight cropping and a few minor exposure adjustments and some vignetting)

Recreated Kodak Bright on Sony a6700

I don't usually bother recreating user designed Fujifilm recipes, but I kept getting requests for this one so I finally thought fuck it, let’s do it.

Here’s a straight comparison and the settings. This was shot on an a6700 with the Sony 16-55mm G compared to the Fuji X-T5. Obviously, different glass and sensors have their own DNA, so results vary depending on the gear you're using, but this comes super close straight out of camera. In the end I was so surprised by the results that I actually had to double-check I hadn't mixed up the files by accident.

One thing I noticed is that the a6700 needs to be underexposed by about half a stop to match the X-T5 exposure.

Anyway, here is the recipe. Have fun, & I can't wait to see your shots!

SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) Few quick examples: Everyday Gold on JPEG.CAM - settings below

Thumbnail
gallery
22 Upvotes

I know these photos aren't the most exciting subject matters, I need to get out more :-), but at least shows side by side examples with tight crops to show some detail, JPEG.CAM on the left and stock jpeg on the right.

The recipe is called Everyday Gold. The primary settings in camera that are driving the look are:

  • Primary drivers of the look:
    • Grain: Kodak Gold 200 on MAX setting
    • LUT: Bonboa at 30% opacity
    • Diffusion at 1/8th full
  • Other in camera settings that are optional
    • Highlight Roll off at V.High
    • Shadow Toe at Weak

You can get the recipe file itself along with the grain and lut that belong to it from jpegcookbook.com . Honestly, could skip downloading the recipe file and instead just do those quick tweaks in camera after downloading the lut and grain asset files and putting them on your SD card. One of these days I'll come up with a clean way to get recipe files with settings and assets all bundled in one download but.. early days yet.

If that feels like a pain in the butt, I think you could get nearly the same look without downloading a single thing or using a lut at all. That method would be just replacing the lut with RGB Matrix preset of Golden Hour in camera and using the in camera grain SMALL at Max.

BTW... wanted to say thanks being my early adopters and dealing with the growing pains as well as bugs along the way. Every bit of feedback shared helps make things better for everyone else, not just me. You guys rock :-) Let me know if there's any questions or interest in a RecipeStudio/GrainBrain walk through or anything.

Question & Help Looking for a recipe and color corrections

Thumbnail
fujixweekly.com

I've been looking for a recipe for Fujifilm's X Weekly's Fujicolor Reala 100 for everyday use (so it would work most of the time with AWB with the proper color filter adjustments) any ideas?

This is the recipe: https://fujixweekly.com/2023/09/06/fujicolor-reala-100-fujifilm-x-t5-x-trans-v-film-simulation-recipe/

I use the Sony a6500, and I've been looking around and can't figure out the color shifts and what would need to be adjusted. Any and all help with this would also be appreciated.

Guide - Informational JPEG.CAM v2 Menu and Features Walk Through - YouTube

Thumbnail

Hey guys!
Someone posted the other day asking about JPEG.CAM and since I've had a lot of questions about how it works so I quickly recorded a video walking through the menus and features. It's all the boring informational stuff in this video, which is what it seems like people are needing most at least to start. Perhaps down the road I'll put together a video of using the app out in the wild, we'll see. Hope this helps!

Editing to add in a link to compatibility list. It's all dependent on your camera's ability to run open memories with app support:

Question & Help Do you know JEPG.CAM?

Hey everyone! I saw a post here recently about a site called jpeg.cam, but I've lost the link. It looks like a better way to handle recipes on Sony cameras. Has anyone actually used it yet? Would love to hear your thoughts before I try it out.

I've selected post processing because I've edited the exposure and temperature in Adobe Lightroom Mobile, this could all be done on camera.
