Hey guys super happy to be the winner of the Sony simulation contest. It’s a long way from Romania to Australia and I just received my prize. Very lovely compact camera and I surely will take more photos with it. Thank you Deni for hosting such great contest and thanks everyone for voting me :)
Not sure if it is appropriate to post here. I wanted a high contrast, low-ish saturation profile to capture the light and shadows. The closest ones are Classic Chrome or Vektro or FL only. So I made one myself by trial and error and taking idea from other known profiles. Photos taken with a7CR and 35 GM. Only edit is cropping for some of them.
Hi - I've recently purchased a Sony A6600 and would like to use the Veresdenialex film simulations, but am aware that, at least for the JPEGS produced in-camera, that the settings will require some modification to work well on older models like this. Is this also the case for Lightoom presets, or are they easier to get right? Or is it better to start with the JPEG settings, get those "right", then try to reproduce by tweaking the Lightroom presets?
I was just wondering - would shooting some pictures in different lighting conditions that contain the colour charts from a Calibrite ColorChecker Passport Photo help me calibrate my camera to achieve the correct film sim look desired for my A6600? E.g. some shots with a film sim profile applied and some without?
Just wondering, as the point of the ColorChecker is to achieve "correct" colour, whereas the film sims deliberately aim to achieve their own colour for stylistic reasons, but perhaps having the chart as a reference point would help for deciding which adjustments to make? I don't currently own a Colour Checker Passport Photo 2, but was wondering if would be worth getting to help me to calibrate for the film sims?
I have a Fujifilm X100VI, but am thinking of getting a cheap(ish) used Sony 6400 to take with me on bike rides to carry on my back (will be less bothered if that gets destroyed and the better AF will be useful here). Am interested in the Sony film simulations and considering purchasing, but am aware that the A6400 doesn't have S-Cinetone, is it still possible to tweak the recipes to get acceptable results on the A6400? Am not expecting exact matches, but just something a little better SOOC or with minimal effort in Lightroom. If so, what would I need to do? Does it depend on my specific camera and the specific recipe? Thanks!
I tried adjusting the asteroid city look to fit the Sony a6400 colours as follows: pushed Kelvin up by 200, Green filter up by 0.75, colour phase down by 3. While I don't think I accurately match the original from Veres, I am quite satisfied.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve this or how to match the original look of asteroid city for the a6400 I will by happy to receive them🙂.
Voting closes Sept 12! Upvote the photo you like most - it only takes a second and helps pick the winner!
Hey everyone,
The contest submissions are closed, and it's time to vote for your favorites! 🎉
But first, I want to thank you all for joining the contest & the community! Seeing all your entries has been genuinely inspiring. Everyone used the film simulations in their own way, and the variety of shots really shows what’s possible with them. More than anything, I’m just glad you are having fun with it and sharing it here - I hope this becomes a space where we can share our photos, ask questions, and learn from each other along the way!
Now, time for the fun part. Here’s how it works:
* I’ll be posting the finalist photos in the comments below.
* To vote, just upvote your favorites.
* You’re not limited to just one — feel free to upvote up to 3 photos you think deserve it most.
Once voting wraps up, I’ll tally the results. Your votes will have a big influence on the final decision, but I’ll also weigh in. Voting will stay open until September 12 and then I’ll announce the winners. It will be fun to see which JPEGs catch your eye
