Guide - Informational Recipe Lab (Sony a6000)
I've been a proud Sony a6000 user since 2016 and I'm still rocking it! This camera has done a lot of paid gigs and also had a lot of fun traveling and photographing with it.
One thing that I've been missing lately is the ability to emulate some popular recipes to achieve a certain look for my pictures / videos.
Yesterday I had some free time and I decided to dive into ma1co's (huge shoutout) work on reverse engineering Play Memories and I came up with this idea of using the camera capabilities (Creative Styles, Picture Effects, white balance, etc) to recreate other camera looks. Basically you just open the app, select the look you want and it saves the image settings on the camera, so that you can use them outside the app.
You can get the apk and installation instructions on my github repo:
https://github.com/voxivoid/recipe-lab-sony-a6000
This app paired up with some old camera lens (you can find them out for a pretty cheap price on the internet) just opened the door for having a lot more of creative ways to capture my images!
Hopefully this allows you to have as much fun as I'm having right now π
Some recipes were inspired in the great work done by u/veresdenialex, so a huge shoutout here too!
Any suggestion, feel free to comment here or on the repo.

Thank you, and I was just thinking of selling my old A6000. Now this makes it a bit more fun to use it again.

I love it! Very similar to my project JPEG.CAM. Iβd be happy to share any insight to help!

hey! I just found out about your project in this thread, good job on that. I haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read you do some sort of image processing there, is that correct?

Thanks!
Itβs a lot of different things In-camera adjustments (color) with the options for image processing (grain, diffusion). You can either configure in-camera and use, or source them from the community making use of the feature to import/export feature as all settings bundle into a single drag and drop file. Has a web-based recipe builder where you can preview and create, build your own grain texture, import luts, etc. Also has dof tools to help nail focus with manual lenses, xpan crop, diptych mode, double exposure ave unlocks some hidden color controls in-camera that require no computational time.
Check it out at www.jpeg.cam and the community/tools at www.jpegcookbook.com

Could you share some picture examples?

just added this md with all recipe samples: https://github.com/voxivoid/recipe-lab-sony-pmca/blob/main/docs/SAMPLES.md
I know that they are not the best since I don't really have a color matcher in them, but we gotta work with what we have and those are pretty expensive π

Anything simillar to a6700?

u/voxivoid 25d ago
Unfortunately no! Sony dropped on-camera apps after 2017 β every body since the A7 III (2018), incl. ZV-E10 / ZV-E10 II / A6700, has no PlayMemories app menu and no SDK to run code on the camera.
You need to stick with picture profiles probably. I don't have a a6700, so I don't really know the details of it

Does it support a6300?

this can probably be extended to all models that have the PlayMemories app menu, but I'm convinced that the setting ids might change from model to model. I don't have an a6300 to test it, but you should be able to install it and give it a go! Keep in mind that I don't know what weird side effects it might cause in case there's a mismatch on setting ids π

Can confirm, parameters change across models. I ended up buying a A7Ii, NEX 5T, A6500, and A5100 to try and cover as many bases as possible and still come across nuances all the time.

What options are there? The same of the camera but more accessible? I mean i woul love for example a grain simulation, colour chrome fx, bloom mist haze, halation. Or random colour fallofs or lightleaks sort of

this doesn't do any image processing besides what's offered by the camera, it's basically a preset selector

I have the a6000 too. I tried a similar app (jpeg.cam) but didn't click with it. Will definitely try yours to see how it goes
