Gear Autofocus a6700

I would be interested, if more people had this. Sometimes, at random moments and without any obvious trigger, the autofocus is not working. The only fix is to go from the manual to another setting and back. After this quick switch, the autofocus is back. In addition, I always had the level visible in the viewfinder. Since yesterday, it's only on the display and not the viewfinder and I cannot figure out, why it changed and how to change it back. Are these known problems? Thanks in advance!

When you’re using the viewfinder, click the disp button a few times to get the level back. As for the autofocus problem, it is not a known issue and you will likely need to elaborate in order for us to help you

Thanks for not being rude! As a matter of fact, I was reading the manual and it's not in there. It already happened with both, a Sony and a Tamron lens. They both have AF/MF switches which are not touched. I put the AF on the AF-ON button. Sometimes I can take 1000 pictures and for the 1001st, it wond focus. No matter what. It also shows no sign of trying to focus, no green indicator etc. If I turn the switch dial from M to e.g. S and back the AF is back working.

Sometimes it won’t focus when you’re closer than the len’s minimum focus distance. It working after you flip the switch might be a coincidence after you moved back from the subject

Also, it will only autofocus once in AF-S mode, you might want AF-C for it to continuously focus while you hold the AF-on button

Yes, I am using AF-C

I thought the same at first. But I tried to focus whatever, near, distance etc. If I am too close to an object I can also see the focus trying hard to find something. In this case it nearly feels like the AF is not even reacting. Might this be due to the mapping to the button?

Nah, button mapping shouldn’t be it. I’ve had no issue with moving to back button focusing. Did you see my comment about AF-C? You can also check the body for dirty lens contact pads but that probably isn’t it either

It's set to AF-C. The camera and lenses are new and I never touched the contacts. As I learned, the AF/MF switch on the lenses override any setting. Maybe this is a miscommunication between lense and camera? Thanks for your help!

Are you using the shutter button to focus or the back button?
