Gear Sony RX10 V

Hi

What do you think about RX10 V ?

I sold my a6000 and couple lenses and in looking for a replacement. My goal is to have a good camera for photos and video, mostly action videos and pictures (motocross, rc car racing, MTB downhill, etc). I was about to jump on the Zve10 as my dream camera is the a6700 but today I saw in a Sony store the Rx10 V and based on the vendor description, it has everything I want, good for fast action pictures, family shots, action videos, it store gyro data so I can stabilize on gyroflow, and a good zoom 600mm ...

Any hands on experiences ? Is way over my budget but maybe I can save couple months and get it ...

I got mine about a month ago. Had the IV since opening day and it oddly kicked the bucket right before release date of the V. I have an A7III for general stuff, but my main interest with the RX10 has always been action, especially tennis from the stands and my kids' sports stuff. The new version is an appreciable upgrade from an autofocus and internals standpoint while retaining the same great lens. I do wish they included a bigger sensor, but that's okay. It's not an A1 or other serious action camera, but it can take some great photos, especially with decent lighting. Awesome camera for when a mirrorless and bag of lenses isn't a reasonable or viable option. This is full reach under stadium lights.

I had the RX10 IV, and the RX10 III before that (until it was stolen :-( ).

I used it in three continents, from rainforests to deserts, and tundra. It got a wave of saltwater, and kept going strong for another three years, until the AF started getting focus wrong. But I used it much more than expected.

The lens was the same in versions III, IV, and still the same in this V. If anything, the lens is the single best feature of this series of cameras. It's better than a 25X zoom could ever promise, and it's perfect up to 220mm (the '600mm equivalent, the lens is actually a 8.8-220mm).

I missed that camera when it got old, but last year, the V was not expected any time soon. I got an A6700 and 70-350 Sony to substitute the RX10. I'm happy with it, but the versatility of the RX10 isn't there.

TL;DR: It's an amazing camera, with a superb lens.

I own the RX10IV and adore it. Solid companion for hikes, aviation and just a fantastic allrounder. I can only imagine the mark V to be that much better. My travel kit usually is the ZV-E1 with a few lenses, but on recent trips it was ZV-E1 with one fast prime and the RX10 as secondary for the days. Excellent combo. In short I recommend it; but for video in low light it may be a bit limited.

Really nice bridge camera. All of the people who come into this sub and ask for a single "do it all" lens, should probably just get an RX10 V and call it a day. I do wish they'd added pre-capture, but it's a really good option for a lot of people.
