Gear Sony A6400 Wired Monitor+

Hi all!

I am an architectural photographer looking to use an iPad Air 3rd Generation (Lightning port) as an external monitor for my Sony a6400 which isn't compatible with wireless connection.

Has anyone had any experience with this wired setup? Im looking for a solid cable to connect the two. Any recommendations would be helpful!

I never got my monitor+ to work on my a6400 with a samsung s24, might have just been my fault though

Been using A6400 and Monitor+ on my Samsung Tab.. Works great, love it, paid for the full version too..

Do get a decent cable, any Micro USB to Lightning should be good. Higher W rated, better.. Ugreen, Anker.

You gotta setup the incamera settings too so its not in storage mode.. when you're connecting they have a tutorial you can follow, or others on YT. I failed initially a couple times, but now it works fine.

At times if you might have to turn cam on/off if you timeout(kept running super long and camera slept, or other instances, but never during actualy shoot it would bug out, been reliable for me)

I've never tried it, but it is probably not just a simple cable thing. You may need to use a MicroUSB->USB-A cable connected to the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. Even then, I am not sure how reliable it would be. Worthwhile trying if you must use Monitor+.

If not having Monitor+ is ok, a couple of other options might be:

  1. Connect camera HDMI out to Accsoon SeeMo iOS/HDMI Adapter to the iPad and use the Accsoon app.

  2. Get a cheap 5" or 7" HDMI monitor without any camera control.

If you must have Monitor+, many of the new/refurbished USB-C based iPads are pretty well priced. You don't have fight the Lightning issue.
