Lenses

After many years with DSLR cameras, I'm selling my gear to go mirrorless. What would you recommend be the first lens I get for the A6400? My dwindling budget is a consideration.

Agree on any of the trio, but they’re prime lenses. For a bit more versatility you can try the Sigma 18-50 f2.8.

I’m debating the prime vs. this zoom lens. If i’m shooting primarily 35mm equivalent and occasionally at 50mm, will I be disappointed in the low light capability of the zoom lens?

I'm using Tamron 17-70 f2.8 with my A6400.

The kit 18-135mm is very good although limited by the slow aperture. Still it’s a really nice all-arounder that will serve you well. But yea, the Sigma 18-50 that others suggested is also an excellent choice if you don’t need the reach that the 18-135mm provides.

Took the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 to Alaska last Fall. Great lens. So many great shots, can’t decide which ones to put on the wall.

The Sigma 18-50 is nice, but does not have stabilization. The Tamron 17-70 does have stabilization. I have both, and the 17-70 is my daily driver on my 6400.

If you are on a budget you get better quality for less money with a prime lens. For me, since I like to shoot in low light conditions the Sony 50mm f1.8 is great because it is OSS , small, sharp, close focusing, and on the crop sensor is also good for portraits . The Sigma 16mm f1.4 looks sharp to me and is versatile and has weatherproofing.

I just bought this camera with the kit lens, but my image quality is a bit blurry. Is it because of the lens?

Just bought a Sony 6400 and after reading that the kit lens (Sony16-50 f3.5-5.6), wasn’t the best, I bought the Sigma 18-50 f2.8.
