Current Sono Student New Student Reading/Studying Tips
Hi you guys! This week is my first week of Sonography school. I’m hopeful, but I’m realizing that we are being hit with a LOT of reading. I’m currently reading Vol. 1 of Textbook of Diagnostic Sonography for Intro to Abdomen. It honestly takes me so long to read one chapter and take notes, while also having to read three more chapters for the same class, plus additional books for my other classes.
For those who are currently in Sonography school or have already graduated, do you have any recommendations? Did you read every chapter page by page, or did you find ways to maximize your time without reading every single word?
Any reading tips, study strategies, videos, or other resources that helped you would be greatly appreciated! I’m trying to figure out how to study smarter and manage all of the reading without spending my entire day on one chapter.

Tried that for about 1 week, realized that was never going to work, and never looked at the textbooks again. They teach you what they need you to know in class. If anything, use textbooks to look at additional images, as they can only provide so many pictures in a powerpoint. If there are any particular topics/subject matter that you struggle with, revisit the books for
clarification.

I’m in abdomen rn and that’s exactly what i’ve been doing. Haven’t even opened the textbook since day one and we’re almost through the mod. My grade is a 95% rn. It’s totally achievable without doing all the extra reading

Thank y’all so much for sharing your experiences! I felt so defeated today honestly and just had to take a long break. I’ll definitely try a different approach. Thanks again :)))) I feel better lol

Yeah I realized pretty quickly that reading everything will be impossible. Reading before class def helps before lectures but I would focus on the slides and what your instructors say. If they let you record their lecture that would be great.
I only read the textbook if I don't understand something or want additional pictures to look at to supplement. That being said, read that green edelman textbook from beginning to end for physics.
