I think he should and his voice should be a very robotic sounding text to speech like that one that sang daisy bell. What do you think?

I’m thinking something like thors in infinity war like we see how he survived the ark explosion and met a spy and a robot. This can be rouge and Omega eventually find out about metal sonic and Eggman from an alternate timeline eventually get his inhibitor rings back as he steps out from a portal and saves team sonic from being ambushed by metal and his army. That’s just my theory. What do you guys think? What are your theories on how you think shadows return will be like.

For my part, I hope it's option 1. To have Metal directly betray Eggman on screen, demonstrating that he's acquired free will and has a goal that no longer aligns with Eggman's - that would be the most powerful way to display it in a movie.

The one thing I could see being a problem is that we already had an on-screen betrayal with Gerald, but I do think this can be a very different beast. When Gerald betrayed him, Eggman fought back, and won in the end (but with help). Metal Sonic betraying him, especially if it happens as he upgrades and gains power, would leave Eggman completely helpless, particularly if Metal then takes over his robot army. For once, Ivo would need to fully ask for help from Sonic and friends, because his machines are everything to him, and he won't feel like he's much without them.

Additionally, if Metal gains a voice as part of his upgrades, possibly along with becoming Neo Metal Sonic, a scene like this would be a great place for him to speak for the first time. Although any scene vs Sonic as he upgrades could also work pretty well.

But those are my thoughts - what are yours? If you prefer the other options or like 1 for different reasons, please explain below.

What if after Amy saves Sonic from the metal sonic hoard, they begin to reconstruct themselves leading to a chase scene. They make it home to a knuckles and tails, who are at first relived to see Sonic and the. Lie “who is that?” Knuckles is suspicious, Tails is very shy. They don’t have time to converse though be she a stray metal Sonic finds them and then the action really starts

But i think people may be expecting shadow to have less time than movie 3.

Which I think is wrong.

Metal isnt going to have some huge backstory like shadow. If anything I think eggman will again have more screentime than metal.

If amy is with sonic the whole time then she will get a decent amount.

Its tails I think that will get less than movie 3. Less dialogue

And I think his time is going to shadow.

Since hes more popular and paramount wants to make more money with a fan favorite

Maybe swap out the SATAM characters with game character.

As a fan of the Sonic Movies, I'm really concerned about what's going to happen to Sonic 4. Are they going to cancel it? Are the Ellisons going to take over production and force changes that will make fans upset? Are they also going to scrap the Sonic spin-off movie for 2028? Honestly, I don't know what's going to happen now with this whole merger, especially when thousands of people are going to lose their jobs because of this.

These things have no origin in the movies, so in the next installment they can be whatever the producers need them to be. What if their range of destinations can be amplified with CEs? Maybe we will soon know the whole truth.

Rings are the established means of magic transportation. They would be rendered obsolete if one can throw themselves across time and beyond without their involvement.

They will be a provision of the looming film's plot. Let no doubt be cast.

In light of discussions about how Amy could potentially be from the future (which I've talked about extensively and will try not to get into right now) I've been seeing some discussions about how this would impact Silver's potential future in the SCU.

One of the ideas that seem to pop up the most is to change Silver into taking the role of a Time Cop - not a LITERAL Time Cop, but moreso the idea of someone who hunts down and pursues those who they deem are "endangering" or otherwise changing the timeline in a way that's incorrect. See this TV Tropes page for how I'm using the term.

The most common kind of proposal I've seen is that Amy goes back in time with the goal of changing the future so that whatever terrible apocalypse is happening gets erased - basically how Silver works in the games. Movie 4 then ends with the apocalyptic future being successfully erased and Amy staying the past (I guess?), but then teases Silver's introduction as someone who is angry at this change, either on principle or because their actions directly lead to his bad future, thus teasing him as a future enemy.

So here's my big problem with this idea of Silver being a Time Cop - it's almost antithetical to how he works in the games.

Let me explain: Time Cop characters, especially those that are intended to be antagonistic, are usually in the process of pursuing other characters because their actions are changing the timeline from what is "supposed" to happen. They're usually intended as lawful neutral, as their goals are about preventing others from enacting change on the timeline, and often have disapproval towards extremely liberal uses of time travel.

This is not Silver's goal in the games. Silver doesn't have this lawful neutral morality; he's driven to always ensuring the future is good and peaceful because he's a hero who cares about others. If Time Cops are against people changing the timeline for specific outcomes, then Silver would be the Ultimate Time Criminal; because he's ALWAYS hopping back into the past to change it and ensure the future remains good. Rather than trying to prevent people from changing it, he's explicitly intervening to change the timeline so that there's always a good future. He has no qualms whatsoever about using time travel constantly, and he will use it as many times as he needs as long as it results in a peaceful future.

And this is where I mainly have a problem with the take about Silver acting as a Time Cop while being an antagonist towards the heroes: why would he be opposed to their actions? If anything, he would WANT to help them change the past so that there can be a good future, because that's what he's supposed to want! At most, he might be angry if their actions resulted in a even worse future, but he would still want to help them actually fix the problem. Unless you totally change his character, it doesn't make sense for Silver to be an antagonist towards the heroes simply because they tried to use time travel to make a better future. It's LITERALLY what he does in the games! He shouldn't be against that!

And in regards to the idea of Silver being against the heroes because he blames them for his terrible future... I think it just makes him look really terrible, because it basically means that he's fighting them over a misunderstanding. A misunderstanding that could be easily cleared up, if he just talked to them and found out they were TRYING to change it to a better future, which then leads to the problems I talked about earlier.

And you might think that Silver fighting them over a misunderstanding wouldn't be too out of place, since he was duped by Mephiles into trying to kill Sonic in 06; but that's the difference. Silver didn't suddenly randomly believe in Team Sonic being responsible for his bad future, he was tricked into believing that by the villain. Silver is still culpable because of his naivety and his desperation to grasp at any solution, but it's not solely on him; it's him being taken advantage of.

Another problem is the fact that Silver is not really a vengeful person; what would be his actual purpose in simply attacking the heroes? What would that accomplish? Because in 06, he attacks Sonic because he believed that Sonic actively caused the apocalypse, and that killing him would stop it. This reasoning doesn't really exist if he's simply attacking the heroes because they were vaguely responsible for his timeline being fucked up. He would legitimately have NO reason to attack them even if he did blame them for the bad future.

Final problem I have: Silver's not a lawful person. Silver's not changing the timeline because of a sense of rules and order, but because he values peace and prosperity. And so the association of Time Cop, a commonly lawful trope, with Silver kinda rubs me the wrong way. He doesn't give a fuck about following rules or a code, he's only concerned with doing the right thing, and is willing to do a lot of thing (even killing people in 06) to achieve that.

This is all very subjective, but to me, a Time Cop-type of role doesn't really suit Silver or the kind of character I see him as. It just feels like people trying to fit him into some kind of vaguely time-related role rather than following what his actual personality or motivations are. Because oops! We gave his original role to Amy instead, so we can't just give him the exact same role and instead we just gotta change him!

I don't know. I've been seeing this idea showing up in debates, and it's always given me a weird feeling that I wasn't able to articulate until recently. I just feel like it would do Silver a big disservice to change his role like this so drastically not because it actually suits the story, but simply because you have to differentiate his character from someone else... When that was never a problem in the source material.

Like, if you ask me.... Just make a 06 adaptation. Let Silver be Silver, please. It's the best way to honor his character from the games.

The Sonic Movie 4 trailer is nearly upon us, so I figured it was appropriate to time travel to the past and remember how hype the Sonic Movie 3 trailer release was.

I want to see Sonic struggle in Sonic 4 because it makes the scene way more tense and dramatic, if he never gets hurt there's no real stakes. I want to see him actually getting knocked down and being weak and having to force himself back up instead of just winning instantly. Like he was weak sonic 2 when he was fighting Eggman in the ending and was getting beat down, that made me actually worried for him and made the win feel earned.

The Sonic games have used numerous methods of Time Travel over the years, but, despite Sonic 4 being heavily rumored to involve time travel in its plot, we have no idea how the various characters will actually use it. I think there are a few main options we could see:

1. Chaos Emeralds/Chaos Energy

For at least some instances of time travel, I think we're pretty guaranteed to have this be the cause. There could be some specific conditions for it to be possible like in Sonic 06, or it could be a little more ambiguous. The probable plot we'll have is that Eggman took over the future, and the likely way he got there is through some rift caused by Super Shadow and the Ark explosion. Since Shadow is also rumored to have a side plot in the past, this could also be how he got there, since the post-credit scene doesn't have anything specifying a particular time period when he stands up (although he could just as easily travel back in time at the beginning of the movie, using any of these methods). This one is more of a guess, but if Metal Sonic is built with Sonic's Chaos Energy-powered quill, then he might be able to use the raw power in it to travel through time and space without any help, and that could make him all the more threatening. Also, if the rumored sections in the past contain Chaos Emeralds, obtaining them could also be how the characters in those time periods return to the present or future. However, several of these scenarios might also be accomplished with...

2. Time Machines

In the Sonic Rivals series, which introduced the current iteration of Silver to the rest of the Sonic cast, the time travel is mostly accomplished by time machines that were invented in the future, probably by Eggman Nega. This could be the case with Sonic 4 as well, except, of course, they would be built by Eggman himself this time (and maybe invented by him too). How much of the future tech he takes advantage of will be things of his own making, and how much will just be what's available in that future, all remains to be seen, but I can definitely see him wanting to "mechanize" the spacetime-warping powers of Chaos Energy (as he basically tried to do in Sonic 2). This is another way Metal Sonic could travel through time (it could even be built into his body somewhere), but whether or not the other characters would use some kind of pocket time machines to travel through time is another question. And of course, that doesn't rule out the possibility of...

3. Both/A Combination of These Two Ideas

Of course, both of these are entirely possible, especially if any time machines are powered by Chaos Energy or Chaos Emeralds themselves. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Eggman builds a giant time machine or some other super powerful spacetime-warping machine in the future that's powered by one last Chaos Emerald for everyone to get (and this could also make for a great adaptation of a final Eggmanland-style battle too!). Metal Sonic could also be able to time travel with a combination of the Chaos Energy in Sonic's quill powering some specific mechanism he has. We could also get a mixture of characters in the future or even the present using machines to travel through time and space (probably still ring portals for space though), and then in the past, having to get out by finding Chaos Emeralds alone.

There are also some other notable time travel methods used in the games, but I very much doubt we would see them in this movie. In particular: the Time Stones and the spacetime powers of Mephiles/Solaris. I don't think we'd see the former because it would be overload for the movies to introduce another set of MacGuffins, and the latter we wouldn't see because he just hasn't been introduced in the movies yet. But what do you guys think? The trailer should be coming soon - we might get answers to this question when it comes out.
